THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS 1 APRIL 2011

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN…

Put your hands together for a very, very special guest. Filling in for Sarah, we are honoured to announce that this week’s newsletter has been written by the king of slashers himself! Straight from the promoition of his latest film Hatchet II, give it up for the one and only Mr. Kane Hodder…wait. What?! It appears that Kane was not told about this mainly because I just made it up? Damn it! Well, I guess you guys will just have to put up with me this week; Iluvdvds.

I’ve taken a break from my zombie-crushing, sasquatch-slashing, alien-chasing, unicorn-racing busy life of mine *cough cough* to fill in for the ever fantastic writting of Sarah for the next two weeks. So, put your feet up and stick on The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh (Shameless Screen Entertainment: DVD) before visiting the film’s main threads as I take you through the land of Cult Labs.

ALSO OUT NOW

Stop! It’s Hammer time. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, the UK’s most successful horror company are back in business for a whole new generation. Joining Let Me In and The Resident comes a very creepy and eerie new hammer horror film, Wake Wood   (Momentum Pictures: DVD). Described as being in keeping with the spirit of such horror masterpieces as The Wicker Man (NOT the remake – the bees!) and Blood On Satan’s Claw, this film is bound to terrify you to the core. Visit the official blog  here, if you dare.

But that’s not all horror hounds, there’s a whole load of films out this week, including:

  • Island Of Death (Arrow Video: DVD) - completely UNCUT and crammed to the brim with goodies. This is a must see video nasty for any fans of shocking cinema. Not for the sheepish. Ewe have been warned. (Damn that was terrible – I apologise).
  • Primevil (Revolver Entertainment: DVD) – Staring Lance look-at-me-I’ve-seemingly-been-in-every-recent-bigfoot-film Henriksen, this film blends both The Descent with Predator for some primitivly gruesome horror.

 OUT NEXT WEEK

Have you ever thought to yourself ‘Hmm, if only this beautifully shot road-movie adventure film with a great romantic subplot had several killer giant alien monsters in?’ I know I have. Well, fear not like-minded people, for Vertigo Films are releasing the frankly incredible Monsters to DVD and Blu-Ray. Horray! This sci-fi masterpiece is both beautiful and terrifying and comes highly recomended. Sam has written an excellent blog entry on this film and it’s use of CGI achieved solely on an Apple Mac! Click here to give it a read.

Also out next week:

  • The Man From Nowhere (eOne: DVD) A man from nowhere? That sounds suspicious. I wonder what he put on his census.
  • Norwegian Ninja (eOne: DVD) Ok, ok, ok so this doesn’t come out until the 18th, but come on this is too damn awesome not to talk about it! From the makers of Dead Snow, this kick-ass Ninja film has everything and more a Ninja film should/could/would ever want. Even a poodle. Because poodles are cool. Visit the constantly updated website here for all your ninja need. Hiiiiiiiyaaaaa!

COMING SOON FROM CULT LABS

Spiders. Dogs.  The Dark. Buried alive. Castration. Death. Everyone has fears. But none of them compare to the mightiest of all fears – a primitive fear within us all. Yes, that’s right; the fear of an man-killing tyre! Ahh! Yes, it can only be the upcoming film Rubber which tells the emotional and hard-hitting tale of a lone rubber tyre who massacres an entire town! Check out the film’s artwork. Tell me that isn’t amazing!  For all your tyre needs, forget the garage – they’re doomed! Head straight over to the Rubber blog, and prepare yourself!

Don’t forget 13 Assassins either. Even more Asian cinema goodness, this film is a must see for fans of martial arts, fighting, and straw hats. Judo chop! Check out the hubsite and the Youtube page  now!

THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY

Oh the Labs, how I luv them. Full of great people who certainly know their stuff – and what a lot of chit-chat has been going on recently. Here are a few threads that have grabbed by attention recently…

In keeping with the Hammer theme, here’s a fittingly appropriate thread to discuss all your fav Hammer Horrors. Lee or Cushing? Dracula or Frankenstein’s Creature? White binkini or white dress? The debate is going crazy!

The most infamous killer doll now has a whole thread dedicated to him. Every horror fan has to have seen at least one Child’s Play film, surely. But which is the best? What were your first memory of the Chuckster? But more importantly, who actually likes the mess that is Seed of Chucky?

Quite possibly the single most amazing threads ever created in the history of the world. And I’m not saying that because I created them. Ok, maybe I’m SLIGHTLY biased but…oh just visit them already!

  • If you’re heading over to the forums, be sure to check out the forum rules and pop into the new members thread to say hello if you haven’t already. If you ever feel intimidated by the behaviour of any Cult Labs members, tell one of the mods in strictest confidence: that’s Sarah, Reaps, Stephen, Nos and Bizarre Eye.

KYLE’S COMP CORNER

Prizes! Horray! Who said you can’t have something for nothing? Well, I did because if you want to win this week’s prize of Island Of Death you’re going to have to prove your worth! Be sure to enter here before it ends this Sunday. Time’s running out! Eek!
