Watched Pink Cadillac (1989) starring Clint Eastwood and Bernadette Peters earlier today. A fairly enjoyable (if forgettable) film. Even get Clint doing his best Fletch impersonation and donning disguises to catch the bad guys. The best thing about the film is probably the supporting actors, Michael Des Barres, Timothy Carhart, Bill Moseley, Jimmy F Skaggs and even James Cromwell, 3rd from the bottom of the cast list!

Time to watch The Gauntlet now.

Detention

A very pleasant surprise indeed. A high-school, hipster, slasher comedy, with a bit of time-travel thrown into the mix, curiosity got the better of me due to some positive reviews and it didn't disappoint. The director has a music video background and it shows; just about everything is thrown at the screen, but it works terrifically with the film's boundless energy - not only does it look good, it's never boring. The cast are game and likable, the jokes quickfire enough to frequently hit, it's crammed with pop culture references, and there's even some amusing gore - and somehow it all fits together.

This is one I'd actually recommend seeking out the US (region free) blu for, as it was only released on DVD in the UK. It certainly entertained the OH and I tonight.

I found this a very difficult film to review & rate... it simply defies genre.

I'd definitely recommend watching it, though - it's on Lovefilm instant streaming for anyone who may be interested.

Here's my brief review (that isn't really much of a review!)

Despite watching it a while ago, I still think about it from time to time, and definitely feel the need to re-watch it.

I absolutely love Detention too. It could be incredibly annoying but I think it works so well. I must pick up the US bluray at some point.

Still on a "Universal" kick "The Creature from the Black Lagoon". Go get 'em Gill Man!

Just seen Evil Dead!

Now as people have said it does have problems and is far from a perfect movie. No its not as good as original but no remake will ever be as good as original unless maybe Rami directs, even then it will be hard to be better.

I enjoyed it and had a good 90 mins! Its a insane movie and does not let you go right until the end! I think the gore factor was slightly over hyped as it was not as gory as people made out. Most of the blood was used in the end scene but that was for non violence reasons (wont spoil it).

Overall its a VERY good remake and makes NOES, halloween, thing remakes look like garbage! You can tell Fede really loved the original and tried to do most effects using practical stuff. Big props to him and I look forward to watching more of his flicks!

Go see now!

But The Thing is one of the best horror films ever made. I think you may be mistaking The Thing being the prequel to The Thing rather than The Thing being a remake of The Thing because in fact The Thing is actually a remake of The Thing from Outer Space, the new The Thing is not a remake of The Thing. Understand?

But the new The Thing is a remake of the Carpenter The Thing, even though it's also a prequel!

It can't be a remake if its a prequel, it may be a prequel that has similar events to the original but its not a remake
troggi likes this.
