THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 18 MARCH 2011

PASS ME A TISSUE PLEASE!

Because I am full of snot… Yuck! I’ve had a cold all week and now it decides that it wants to get worse. Fab.

I actually look a bit like one of the icky zombie types in The Beyond (Arrow Video: DVD & Blu-ray), which is funny because it’s out this week and will be my film of choice for the weekend as I lie in a pile of tissues! If you fancy finding out more about this title (and less about my cold) why not check out the blog? Or if you’d rather discuss the film, pop over to the official mini-forum!

So, now, on with the rest of the newsletter. I promise that if you read on I will not sneeze on you. At least, not intentionally…

Sarah@Cult Labs.

ALSO OUT NOW

Also out this week we have Sharktopus (Anchor Bay Entertainment: DVD), the latest offering from the King of Exploitation, Roger Corman. The delightful Mr. Sharktopus (half shark, half octopus, completely wonderful) is already generating awards buzz for his heart-rending performance and has been keeping us informed of his UK exploits through his blog which has proved to be excellent reading. Alternatively, if you would like to discuss the film, head on over to the official thread where you can find links to all Mr. Sharktopus’s blogs!

Also out now:

  • Altitude (Anchor Bay Entertainment (DVD & Blu-ray) – view the latest blog or discuss the film here.

OUT NEXT WEEK

Coming next week is Island of Death (Arrow Video: DVD). This former video nasty stands out as a gloriously cynical exercise in pushing the taboo button and standing back to enjoy the carnage. Have a peek at the blog or chat on the official mini-forum.

Also out next week:

  • The King Maker (Anchor Bay Entertainment: DVD) – read the latest blog or check out the official thread.

COMING SOON FROM CULT LABS

So what else to we have lurking in the laboratory for you? Well, only the best-titled film since Sharktopus! Cult Labs are proud to bring you Norwegian Ninja (eOne: DVD, 18 April 2011)! Produced by the guys who brought you Dead Snow, Norwegian Ninja is a hilarious action romp based on a true story of treason and espionage in Cold War-era Norway re-imagined by a writer-director who, as a 12-year-old, had his mind warped by a diet of Star Wars, 1980s Ninja movies, C64 video games and his dad’s spy novels! Cult Labs is hosting the film’s official hubsite which provides you with all your NN needs including clips, images, forum threads and more! And if you run a review or news story about NN on your site, email it to almar@cult-labs.com and it’ll be added to our links table which acts as a rather cool hub for Norwegian Ninja on the web!

Also coming soon from Cult Labs:

  • The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh (Shameless Screen Entertainment: DVD, 28 March 2011) – have a peek at the latest blog or join in on the official mini-forum!
  • Wake Wood (Momentum Pictures: DVD, 28 March 2011) – read or chat about it!
  • Monsters (Vertigo Films: DVD & Blu-ray, 11 April 2011) – clap your peepers on the latest blog or pop yourself over to the official thread!

THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY

I have the best Mr. Sarah@ Cult Labs ever! He’s gone the chippy to get me a spicy curry for my tea to help shift my cold… Yummy!  So while I enjoy chicken curry and chips, why don’t I let you know what’s caught my eye on the Cult Labs forums this week?

Twilight Zone (1960s) Season One In-Depth Episode Guide

TGGPodcast has kindly taken over duties as moderator on the official UK forum for The Twilight Zone and has set up a brilliant mini-forum for Season One of the original series. There’s a thread for each individual episode so head on over and discuss your memories of this fantastic series!

Fantastic Factory Presents

Only a month to go until this fab Arrow Video boxset is available to buy but if you can’t wait that long you should check out this mini-forum devoted to all things Fantastic Factory. Discuss the artwork, the specs and the individual titles and pass the time until this boxset can be yours!

Prisoner: Cell Block H – YOU choose the colour! Vol 10 – CLOSES 12pm Monday

Once again you can choose the colour for the UK DVD boxset of Prisoner Cell Block H… this time it’s Vol. 10 that’s going to the polls and you can choose from green-blue, duck-egg blue (my own personal choice), sky blue or baby pink! So head on over there to vote and, remember, voting closes at 12pm on Monday!

Shameless on Facebook

Did you know that Shameless Screen Entertainment have a Facebook group? No? Well you do now! This thread is where you can find out how to join and also where you can share ideas on how that Facebook group might be used so tootle on over and say hello!

If you’re heading over to the forums, be sure to check out the forum rules and pop into the new members thread to say hello if you haven’t already. If you ever feel intimidated by the behaviour of any Cult Labs members, tell one of the mods in strictest confidence: that’s me, Reaps, Stephen, Nos and bizarre_eye.

KYLE’S COMP CORNER

This week you can win a copy of Sharktopus courtesy of Kyle and his Corner of Comp! If you fancy getting your hands on the little fella (Sharktopus, not Kyle!) all you have to do is head on over to the Comp Corner and entering… Good luck!
