THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 27 MAY 2011

CRAZY, CRAZY WEATHER…

Seriously, one minute it’s glorious and the next minute it’s chilly, wet and windy. No fun! How’s a girl supposed to decide what to wear? I’ve had my central heating switched off since early March so lately when I settle in to watch films I’m having to bring a blanket in case the temperature suddenly sinks. It sucks!

However, it’s nothing to get too sad about as Cine Excess V is finally here – yay! The conference runs until Saturday but if you can’t make it there’s nothing to worry about since you can get all your Cine Excess goodness right here at Cult Labs – more on that in a moment!

This week I also have news of artwork, newly announced releases and all the best bits of Cult Labs so grab a cuppa, take a break and enjoy!

CINE EXCESS V

At the time of writing, Cine Excess hasn’t quite started yet but, by the time you read this, it’ll be in full swing! Featuring screenings of the new edit of Cannibal Holocaust (courtesy of Shameless Screen Entertainment), Django (courtesy of Argent Films), Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man, and A Quiet Place in the Country, as well as various panels, discussions and meet-and-greets, this looks like one event that no cult film fan can afford to miss!

Sam will be in attendance and so will be keeping you up to date via the blog (which already has a really awesome Cannibal Holocaust article – check out the link). Crucially though, you can also keep up to speed via Facebook. The Cult Labs FB page is already littered with loads of Cine Excess info and gossip so be sure to check it out! Also, as Shameless and her sister company, Argent have a few films showing at Cine Excess, there’s a special thread devoted to it on the forums!

Incidentally, the BBC have ran a rather cool piece on Deodato and censorship! You can check it out here!

COMING SOON FROM CULT LABS

Coming to DVD on 13 June 2011 is Exile (FremantleMedia Enterprises), a gripping, three-part psychological thriller.

Tom Ronstadt is a journalist making a name for himself in London until a combination of booze, drugs and sexual indiscretions sees his career on the skids and his personal life in ruins. To escape the fallout, Tom returns to his family home in Lancashire for the first time in two decades, where he finds his father, Sam, lost in the grip of Alzheimer’s and now being cared for by Tom’s younger sister, Nancy. The return home stirs up uncomfortable memories for Tom as he recalls the circumstances that led him to leave for London all those years ago. The cause of the incident in question, linked to his childhood, has always remained a mystery for him… until now. For more info, check out the blog!

THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY

I’ve got an Arrow artwork special for you this week, since Nos has announced a load of brand spanking new artworks. Also, make sure you keep your eyes peeled on the Arrow Video Official Forum where the releases planned for August 2011 will be announced today!

Pervert! – The Artwork Panels

The main and alternative artwork for the forthcoming (and frankly quite brilliant looking) Pervert! is now up for all to see. What’s your favourite? Panel A or Panel B? Come along and share your thoughts over on this thread!

Savage Streets – The Artwork Panels

Like a bit of Linda Blair busting out of her catsuit? Yes? Then the alternate artwork for the amazing Savage Streets will blow your mind! Head on over to the artwork thread to share your thoughts? Which image of Ms. Blair would you like to see on display?

Obsession – The Artwork Panels

The artwork panel choices for Arrow’s forthcoming release of Obsession are, frankly, sexy in my humble opinion. So what do you think? Are they sex in artwork form? Let us know over here…

Slaughter High – The Artwork Panels

As well as stunning main artwork by Graham Humphreys for Slaughter High, there is also some rather fabulous alternate artwork featuring the alternative (and brilliant) title of Jolly Killer. This is some really great artwork so head on over to the thread to let us know what you think!

If you’re heading over to the forums, be sure to check out the forum rules and pop into the new members thread to say hello if you haven’t already. If you ever feel intimidated by the behaviour of any Cult Labs members, tell one of the mods in strictest confidence: that’s me, Reaps, Stephen, Nos and bizarre_eye.

KYLE’S COMP CORNER

This week you have the chance to win a copy of Arrow Video’s Blu-ray release of Dario Argento’s The Bird with the Crystal Plumage. To be in with a chance, all you need to do is head on over to the Comp Corner! Good luck…

BEST OF THE GRINDHOUSE PROJECT

If you haven’t see it on Cult Labs The GrindHouse Project is the place to find out about cult film screenings, festivals and societies in your local area. Below are BioZombie‘s favourite picks for the next week:

27 May 2011 THE TINGLER Picturehouse at FACT – Liverpool
Celebrate the 100th birthday of Vincent Price by going to a screening of one of his best films.

29 May 2011 THE LAST MAN ON EARTH Chapter Arts Centre – Cardiff
See the original I Am Legend as part of more Vincent Price birthday celebrations.

30 May 2011 A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS & THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY – London
Its not the whole trilogy, but two Leone masterpieces on the big screen are sill almost impossible to beat.

Cult film demands to seen on the big screen with an appreciative audience, so head over to The GrindHouse Project and give in to that demand (or else).
