THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS – 27 JULY 2012

Zombies, Man. They Creep Me Out.

We all love a good zombie film. Heck, we all love a bad zombie film. Thankfully, over the next few weeks a couple of awesome zombie titles are crawling and clambering out of their crypts and coming your way (see below for all the juicy details!).  But are the flesh-eating living dead merely confined to fiction? Well, with the recent zombie-like cannibalistic reports coming in thick and fast recently, you’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise. Starting in Miami, two months ago, a naked guy violently attacked an elderly man, eating off his face! Police tried shooting the attacker but he remained filled with rage and hunger that he continued to feast upon the face until several bullets finally killed him. Reports blamed a new drug nicknamed ‘Bath Salt’ although the only evidence of drug use was marijuana in his body. What followed has been a string of similarly frightening reports, even leading the CDC to release a statement denying zombies! A fascinating theory suggests the Miami attacker had been cursed by Voodoo. Perhaps it’s possible that this man only knew of the flesh-eating kind (first seen in Night Of The Living Dead), rather than the traditional Haitian voodoo zombie and, who knows, psychologically believed he was cursed to be an infected which, by his definition, was the brain-eating variety. With zombies becoming more and more popular and the majority of people associating zombies with cannibalism, maybe these outbreaks are psychological zombies? Is 2012 the start of the zombie apocalypse?

We wont know until the time comes, so what better way to spend the time than watching countless zombie flicks and learning how to survive!

EXCLUSIVE SHAMELESS WRITE UP!

Dear readers, we’ve got another exclusive for you this week! Talk about spoiling you guys. Cult Labs member and Shameless Supporter has put together this great note on what makes Shameless so darn great! So, without further ado, please give it up for Mr. Richard Long! Take it away, Richard…

Why I Love Shameless

I love Shameless Screen Entertainment because of the wonderful films I have been introduced to since discovering the company. I’ve always been a fan of Lucio Fulci but I’d never seen the Gothic retelling of The Black Cat or the hauntingly surreal Manhattan Baby. Then there are films such as Footprints, Baba Yaga and The Designated Victim, all films Shameless have restored faithfully to the original directors intended films. Films I fear would have been forgotten about forever if not for Shameless.

In the era of downloads it’s refreshing to still see a company releasing films that cult fans have been crying out for. I started my collection with a box set that in some ways was like a greatest hits collection and a perfect introduction to what the company had to offer.  If you’re new what better way to start your collection than with the new Pop Erotica box set. It contains 3 great movies that I promise will stay with you.

- Richard Alan Long
