In real life, heinous crimes of murder involving more than one assailant often feature a dominant aggressor and weaker compatriots. The leader will certainly be smarter and more psychotic than the weaker willed friends he gathers around himself and a degree of bullying is often apparent.

In this week’s clip, three potential killers round on their disabled friend when the conversation turns to the beautiful young woman whose staying in an insolated cabin nearby. Having mildly humilated the leader of the group already and with the conversation already turned to sex, the seeds are planted for an explosion of impotent male rage.

WHEN REMAKES WORK

None of the gang are particularly smart but they have a weaker dog to kick when they need to. The problem is, their lack of emotional intellect leaves them unable to process the actions of a strong, independent woman who spurns their advances. Factor in the virginity of the disabled character and the unpleasant imagination and bruised ego of the lead thug Johnny and the fuse is already lit. It seems inevitable that the lone female, far removed from her safety zone, will fall victim to a dreadful attack…

Anyone familiar with the original will know that I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE is the Rape-Revenge genre stripped back to it’s barest essentials. A group of unreconstructed backwoods men, a lone beautiful woman, an assault in which the victim is left for dead, a lull in the action, as the rapists return to normal day-to-day tasks as if nothing had happened, followed by the re-emergence of the victim, stronger, dead of soul and seeking blood vengeance.

In this clip, we see the gang of thugs who abused and molested the central victim, going about their daily lives in the aftermath of their crime. But they didn’t tie up the loose ends and now there’s a furious hellcat stalking the woods. Little do they know that at the end of a manly day of drinking and casual misogyny, they are about to enter THE DAY OF THE WOMAN!
