DEADLY OUTLAW REKKA OUT NOW

Takashi Miike’s Yakuza classic Deadly Outlaw Rekka hits UK DVD courtesy of ARROW VIDEO this week. Fans of Miike’s other international successes such as Ichi the Killer, Audition and the Dead or Alive trilogy should check out this slightly more obscure title, which takes the fast paced, documentary style of Japanese Yakuza pictures such as those produced by BATTLE ROYALE director Kinja Fukasaku (Yakuza Graveyard, Cops Vs Thugs) and injects it with a massive dose of Rock n Roll attitude thanks to the soundtrack by Japanese Psych-Rock group The Flower Travelin’ Band.

Takashi Miike’s distinctive brand of organized crime movie comes to UK DVD from Arrow Video on Monday.

Deadly Outlaw Rekka, his inspired fusion of 70s Rock n Roll and gun toting Japanese gangsters is a off beam and eccentric as the best of the directors work, which includes Happiness of the Katakuris, Ichi the Killer, Visitor Q and Audition.

The great thing about a Miike movie? You literally don’t know what to expect. His films have featured everything from musicial numbers and zombies to lactating women filling a kitchen with milk. So who knows what strangeness you’ll come across in this one…

Here’s some reviews of the movie. Some may contain spoilers

BRUTAL AS HELL – “Enough grit… and batshit weirdness to leave the viewer satisfied”

JAPAN CINEMA – “It’s almost wall-to-wall action”

WEIRD WILD REAL – “The soundtrack is the best Miike has ever had”

McBASTARD MAUSOLEUM – “A must-see”
