Talking of Picture quality, I bought three DVD's which were released by Elstree Hill Sutudios. Remember that name everybody!

I bought Hunchback of Notre Dame (Lon Chaney), White Zombie and The Douglas Fairbanks Collection.

I watched 5 mins of Both WZ and Thief of Baghdad. Both had unwatchable PQ! As for Hunchback of Notre Dame, I put the display up on my 360 and it had a running time of 72 minutes! I know for a fact that its on for at least two hours. Never again will I buy a DVD from Elstree Hill Sutudios.

Yeah, that label tends to raid public domain titles...I think they have Carnival of Souls as well...all those films you mentioned are great and deserve the rolls royce threatment...

The Carnival of Souls I have is by STAX Entertainment, but I haven't watched it yet.

E1 Entertainment has released a really great version of Carnival Of Souls in B&W and Colour. Pretty cheap on amazon and the PQ is pretty good. STAX released some great films with some variable quality transfers, i have a few like House On Haunted Hill, The Intruder (Corman) and The Terror Within 1 & 2.

On a different note and taking it back To The DEVIL RIDES OUT...I watched this for the first time this morning on DVD, really Enjoyed it and Christopher Lee was great, although i do have to say i much preferred To The Devil A Daughter also based on a Wheatley novel.

Just watched this, it looks fantastic and the tweaking doesn't ruin the film at all, it still would have been nice to have the original too, but I'm not complaining as this is yet another splendid release from Studio Canal/Hammer

I don't know what the fuss is all about - I think this new version is amazing, it enhances the film in my opinion, and I'm a Hammer fan.

Me too, I'll admit that when I first heard of the tweaking I was mightily pissed off(as can be seen from my posts a few pages back), now I've seen it myself I really think it hasn't been Lucas'd as first feared and because I'm a massive(well 5'6" anyway) Hammer fan, this is very pleasing indeed

So you can confirm that the spider has not been replaced by Jar Jar Binks.Thank God !..Yes the knives are out for this BR too.I would've been keeping the original version anyway as it's in my 21 disc boxset but I'll definitely get the BR as the changes seem quite subtle.It would've been better if the original had been included though & the 'touched' up version included as an extra to save a lot of fuss.Very odd why that was not the case as surely the company realised that it would annoy fans of the original.

I understand the hostility, but the bottom line is that the new version in my opinion looks so much better, I'm sure if the technology/money/resources were available in 1967 the special effects would have been far more better than in the original.

Perhaps all black and white films should be watched in colour then, since they would have been filmed in colour if they had the technology...
