Whilst we are discussing slasher films, can anyone recommend more recent examples of the genre, ones that have been released during the last ten years or so?

There are some pretty good outings i've come across such as Laid to Rest, (Don't bother with the sequel though), Midnight Movie, Knock Knock, Bad Meat, Blood Night, Sweatshop and The Sleeper.

From the last 10 years? ...you're scraping a pretty massive barrel there!

However, from what I've seen I can recommend the following:

Bloody Reunion (2006)
Detention (2011)
Dream Home (2010)
Gutterballs (2008)
Laid to Rest (2009)
Maniac (2012)
Murder Party (2007)
Salvage (2006)
Triangle (2009)

I've still to see the remake of Maniac. Should I be rushing out to buy it? I have heard good things about the Laid To Rest series, but that's more on the gore quota.

I'll stick the boot in with Dem. My Bloody Valentine is actually Canadian, not North American. just call me pedantic Pete.

Laid 2 Rest - the sequel spoilt itself much like The Collection did, the first two films were tense, well written and well directed. The sequels were pretty much just gore and paper thin plotting.
Maniac 2012 is great, cruel, nasty, brilliantly directed and has a killer score.

Nice one, J. I can buy Maniac for a pittance in my local HMV at the moment. I'll pick it up this weekend.

Until the 'revelation' it definitely treads slasher territory in my opinion. However, the film shifts tone once certain things come to light... obviously I don't want to spoil things for people who may not have seen it.

A really great film irrelevant of sub-genre though.

Last time I checked, Canada was in North America - which is a continent. USA is a country also in North America. Pedantic Pete needs to brush up on his geography!

Rewatched this slice (and dice) of Canadian bacon last night. Extended version, of course. From the harmonica duet to the spiffing denoument, this still captivates (unlike the other slasher i watched cough see movies thread....)
