If done correctly, arthouse can blend with most genres to great effect.

It looks mental.....

I finally saw Possession recently and if ever a film was "off it's tits" then it's this one. I say that in a good way. Neill and Adjani's performance is waaaaay over the top and seems to fit the idea that the Director is conveying; that of the breakdown of a relationship and how it ulitmately effects the couple.

It's a build up of bizzarre arguments lightly seasoned with some quality gore and animatronics (?) designed by Carlos Rambaldi. The end denouement pre-empts Omen III: The Final Conflict and I wonder if those tasked with casting that movie had seen Possession.

I love Adjani, she's my 2nd favourite actress oat. And this film is one of my favourites of her career (and it was the film that net her first of 5 César Awards). The dvd was a (and I apologise in advance for this...) a right bastard to get hold of, but I got a copy eventually.

I just watched this a couple of days ago and loved every single twisted minute of it. Parts just didn't add up well or fit together but I thought that's what gave a strange surreal aspect to it. Both of the wife's lovers were just so weird and creepy too, but in two completely different ways Well recommended.
