I think I'll be starting with the "slightly better print" on disc 2, as that seems to be generally considered the best print of the set according to comments I've read.

Isn't it a fake dvdr? I thought you got a proper pressed dvd that was mocked up to look like a dvdr?

It's a strange design choice, considering the rest of the package, you'd think if they wanted to go for the bootleg look, they'd have followed through as a whole. It looks a little disjointed, although maybe that's a reflection of the themes within the film (probably not)?

*Potential spoilers below*

I watched the film last night (2011 telecine), and was pleasantly surprised, it looked much better than I was lead to believe. The damage seemed to be purely surface damage, and only on two or three occasions did it seem to get bad, and only for a couple of seconds at most. Maybe I'm easy to please, but I can live with some surface damage, especially when the film looks pretty solid. Colours seem fine, details are nice, quite a few of the textures in certain shots come across well. I'd even go as far as to say the print damage added to the experience, especially for a film that has been lacking a quality release such as this.

I didn't immediately connect with the film, I found I didn't really become engaged until around the midway point, which wasn't because of pacing, it gets off to quite a spry start. After the midway point I found myself hugely gripped, everything seemed to come together well. I loved the mask in the film, it looked like an over-accentuated mould of Sid Haig's face, painted bloody red. There was a nice sense of dread around specific scenes (especially as I had worked out the 'twist').

I found the film to be a lot tamer than I expected, especially given the notoriety of the film, but found the film very enjoyable nonetheless. I imagine I'll grow fonder of it the more I see it over the years.

I do find it quite depressing that several people involved in the film refused to do anything for the special features because they felt it would hurt their careers, quite sad.
