Not Another Bloody Nosferatu Remake! But This One Needs to Happen | Vamped

"...So do we really need another remake? Yes, and I’ll tell you why: Robert Eggers will be writing and directing it. Probably.

In case you’re not familiar with Eggers, you might’ve seen his debut feature film, The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015), a film that “scared the hell out of” Stephen King."

So apparently they've remade Picnic At Hanging Rock as a miniseries.

I googled it and seen other links confirming
Brood remake

https://www.cinemablend.com/new/Rema...ity-15802.html

It's strange to think that David Cronenberg has been freaking us out for thirty years. Be it the head explosion in Scanners, the creation of Brundlefly in The Fly, or even Ed Harris' end in A History of Violence, his films have always existed on the far edge of extreme, even by today's standards. When you consider the impact his films have had, it's kind of strange that Hollywood has yet to make any crappy, updated remakes of them yet. There was a rumor a few years ago of a Scanners remake that never was, and Cronenberg himself signed on to remake The Fly back in September, but up until now the man's work has been untouched. Now to drop the other shoe...

According to Shock Till You Drop, Cory Goodman, the writer of next year's Paul Bettany film Priest, is refinishing his script for The Brood, a remake of Cronenberg's film from 1979, and Spyglass Entertainment has a director interested in the project. The original film is about a man who begins to investigate the strange form of psychology that his wife's doctor is practicing, at the same time as a group of mutant children terrorize the neighborhood. As his investigation continues, he learns that the two are actually related by a horrifying secret.

Unless said director is Cronenberg himself (don't count on it), this one is destined to be a disappointment. Unlike most directors, Cronenberg has never shied away from putting the most horrible abominations imaginable on screen, and it is hard to think of an equal in that department. The original came as the director was dealing with a divorce and fighting for the custody of his child, and removing that element could result in removing the film's soul. All we can really hope for is that the mutants aren't entirely CGI

13 utterly unnecessary 1980s movie remakes that are actually in development

Don't know if any truth in these here either ,

13 utterly unnecessary 1980s movie remakes that are actually in development

Filmgoers who frequented cinemas during the 1980s have probably felt some deja vu lately. Over the past two years, remakes of films like Fame (1980), Evil Dead (1981), Conan the Barbarian (1982), Footloose (1984), Red Dawn (1984), and Fright Night (1985) have hit theaters. And Hollywood still has plenty of remakes in the works that are designed to convert your nostalgia into cold, hard cash. Here, 13 remakes of movies from the 1980s that are currently in development:

1. Escape from New York
Remake of Escape from New York (1981)

John Carpenter's gleefully ridiculous 1981 sci-fi/action movie follows an ex-con hired to save the president after his plane crashes in New York City, which has been converted into a giant prison. According to G4 TV, the current favorites to replace Kurt Russell as protagonist Snake Plissken in the upcoming remake are Tom Hardy and Jason Statham, who are both fine action stars — but it's still hard to imagine either of them strapping on Kurt Russell's iconic eyepatch.

2. Endless Love
Remake of Endless Love (1981)

If Franco Zeffirelli's gross, turgid melodrama is remembered at all, it's for Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie's syrupy theme song. But this story of two lovestruck teenagers torn apart when the boy goes to prison for burning his girlfriend's house down is still slated for a remake by Country Strong director Shana Feste, starring Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde.

3. Scarface
Remake of Scarface (1983)

Tony Montana might have a few choice words for anyone who thinks they can remake Scarface, but don't forget: The '80s crime drama was also a remake — albeit a very loose remake — of 1932's Scarface. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal's in-development film will be neither a sequel nor a remake of either of the two existing Scarface films, but tell a new "crime tale set in today's world, offering a dark look at the American Dream." Of course, those differences aren't keeping them from exploiting the original film's title.

4. Time Bandits
Remake of Time Bandits (1983)

The original Time Bandits was Terry Gilliam's breakthrough film, in which an 11-year-old teams up with a bunch of dwarves to go on a time-traveling journey that takes them from the Napoleonic Wars to the sinking of the Titanic. It's a strange, fun, deeply idiosyncratic film with charms that would be very difficult to replicate — so of course, a team of producers told Variety they plan to turn the film into a "bigscreen kids action franchise."

5. Videodrome
Remake of Videodrome (1983)

It's hard to imagine any reason why someone would want to remake Videodrome. Though critics adore it, the original film was a flop with audiences, and its grotesque, explicit body horror makes it virtually impossible to faithfully adapt for mainstream audiences. Both its themes and its aesthetics are built on 1980s culture, right down to its obsession with videotapes. And on top of all those barriers, director David Cronenberg actually made a similar film, 1999's eXistenZ, which updated the themes and technology for the modern day — and that was an even bigger flop than Videodrome. But against all odds, this remake is reportedly in the early stages of development. Long live the new flesh, indeed.

6. WarGames
Remake of WarGames (1983)

WarGames, which tells the story of a teen who almost starts World War III when he mistakes an actual nuclear launch program for a video game, may seem a little dated — but it did get an extremely belated (and extremely terrible) direct-to-DVD sequel in 2008. Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon was reportedly on tap to direct a big-budget, full-scale remake in June 2011, but it's not clear if he's still attached to the project. Will WarGames still work in an era in which young gamers have grown up on Call of Duty? Maybe the only winning move is not to remake it.

7. Romancing the Stone
Remake of Romancing the Stone (1984)

Romancing the Stone was the most successful of a group of films that rode the coattails of Raiders of the Lost Ark, offering an adult-oriented version of a big-screen jungle adventure that emphasized the romance between leads Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas. Talks of a remake have bounced around for the better part of a decade; according to Screen Rant, Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler remain the favorites to star. We can only hope the actors find the chemistry that they completely lacked in 2009's The Ugly Truth.

8. Short Circuit
Remake of Short Circuit (1986)

Is Johnny 5 still alive? This long-in-the-works Short Circuit remake, which follows an adorable robot who becomes sentient after he's struck by lightning, has already had a tumultuous production process. According to Deadline, the film has already bounced from Paul Blart: Mall Cop director Steve Carr to Alvin and the Chipmunks director Tim Hill, so fans of the original Short Circuit should probably lower their expectations even further.

9. Highlander
Remake of Highlander (1986)

The original Highlander movie, which tells the story of an immortal Scottish warrior fighting his fellow immortals, was an unexpected franchise-starter that spawned five sequels, three TV series, and almost a dozen novels. But now that the franchise's long-term success has proven to be less immortal than its title character, a remake is on the way. The AV Club reports that Ryan Reynolds was cast in the lead role in 2012, but the Highlander remake has already burned through a series of directors, including Justin Lin (Fast Five) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later). So far, no one has been hired to take Fresnadillo's place.

10. Dirty Dancing
Remake of Dirty Dancing (1987)

Dirty Dancing already got what filmmakers insisted was merely a "re-imagining" in 2004 with Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, which moved the story to Cuba immediately before the revolution (and featured pre-Mad Men appearances from John Slattery and January Jones). But the middling box-office of Havana Nights sent the franchise back to the safer waters of a shameless retread of the 1987 original, with High School Musical's Kenny Ortega currently attached to direct.

11. The Monster Squad
Remake of The Monster Squad (1987)

The original Monster Squad followed a group of preteens as they squared off against a team of classic monsters that includes Dracula, The Wolf Man, and The Mummy — and the upcoming remake aims to reintroduce them to a new generation of children. Rob Cohen, who directed last year's Alex Cross, produced the original Monster Squad and intends to direct the remake. As recently as October 2012, Cohen lamented that the script was just "sitting at Paramount," though he assured fans that both he and producer Michael Bay were "kicking them" to put the film into production.

12. Overboard
Remake of Overboard (1987)

The original Overboard paired real-life couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn in a sort-of-queasy story about a man who tricks a spoiled heiress into thinking she's his wife after she falls off a yacht and develops amnesia. In 2011, Will Smith was reportedly attached to star in a remake opposite Jennifer Lopez, who was eager for the chance to "make fun of her diva reputation," though the lack of updates since then means it's unclear if either actor remains with the project.

13. Pet Sematary
Remake of: Pet Sematary (1989)

Stephen King is such a prolific writer that Hollywood isn't exactly hurting for King stories that haven't already been adapted — even if more than 50 movies have already been produced based on his work. But Pet Sematary is one of the more successful King adaptations to hit theaters, which means that it earned both a sequel (1992's Pet Sematary Two) and the upcoming remake, which remains in development with a script by 1408 writer Matthew Greenberg

iank 11th May 2018 08:03 AM

Overboard has already happened, hasn't it? I believe Anna Faris is in it.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 11th May 2018 10:37 AM

I can't be bothered to look into the developmental stage of all of those titles mentioned, but since the article is from 2013 it's safe to say that they would fit into three categories:
a) Will never happen
b) Have already been made
c) Are stuck in 'development hell' and may stay there forever.

Problem I have with films is over 90% of the film industry now consist of remakes , reboots , sequels or marvel and DC stuff .

'Jigsaw' Star to Topline 'Rabid', Remake of David Cronenberg's Horror Classic! - Bloody Disgusting

MOVIES‘Jigsaw’ Star to Topline ‘Rabid’, Remake of David Cronenberg’s Horror Classic!by Brad Miska May 11, 2018
Casting is officially underway on Rabid, a remake of the 1977 David Cronenberg film of the same name.

Bloody Disgusting learned this morning that Jigsaw star Laura Vandervoort will lead the cast of the remake, which is to be helmed by the “Twisted Twins” aka, the Soska Sisters (American Mary, Dead Hooker In a Trunk).

Drawing influence from the original movie, the remake will follow Rose, a young woman who, after an accident leaves her scarred beyond recognition, undergoes a radical untested stem-cell treatment. While turning Rose into the belle of the ball, the experimental transformation comes at a price.

Rabid is written by Jen Soska, Sylvia Soska and John Serge.

From Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment, Rabid has already been sold to 101 FILMS in the UK, Shout! Studios in the US and A71 in Canada.

Early days yet, but...

‘Arachnophobia’ Remake in Works From Steven Spielberg’s Amblin, James Wan | Variety

I have to ask: 'Why'?

The original is a classic. Presumably this new one will be CGI heavy while the original relied on practical effects which (as far as I am concerned) always work better

Rik 12th June 2018 02:01 PM

Certainly won’t be watching that, and not because it’s a remake of a “classic” but because the last time I watched Arachnophobia when I was a kid I had nightmares about spiders for weeks and have no desire to repeat that as an adult!

iank 12th June 2018 09:35 PM

You just know it'll be a CGI suck fest.

'The Witches': Guillermo del Toro Producing Robert Zemeckis Directed Remake! - Bloody Disgusting

"Robert Zemeckis is in final negotiations to direct Warner Bros.’ latest adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic book, which is being produced by Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro, says Variety.

Zemeckis will also pen the script, with his partner Jack Rapke producing through their banner ImageMovers. Del Toro had long been attached to direct, but a scheduling conflict led the Oscar winner to vacate the director’s chair."

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 22nd June 2018 09:23 AM

This part of the article is the most pleasing:

"Based on the 1973 novel, the film follows a seven-year-old boy who has a run in with real-life witches. Zemeckis’ version will be more rooted in the original source material, which had a much darker, franchise-beginning finale (the young boy remains a mouse and must spend his short life hunting and killing all of those registered in the Grand High Witch’s address book)."

I really like Nicholas Roeg's film, but the ending bugs me because I love the way the book finishes.

Buffy is being rebooted. The new one's going to be black. Of course.

It's not good enough. I think a social media campaign should be undertaken to force the new Buffy to be a man. We've had over a quarter of a century of a female Buffy. It's TIME.

The point of Buffy was, according to Joss Whedon, that he had seen so many occasions in films and TV shows where a woman walks into a dark alley and is killed, so he thought it would be fun, interesting, and different for the (blonde) woman to be in a dark alley with a monster and kick its ass.

If you take that aspect away from Buffy, it loses its Buffy-ness.

You seem to have watched enough of the different Star Trek series to know that staying within a tried and tested formula is not necessarily a bad thing. Similarly, the 1980s version of The Twilight Zone had some great episodes. I've only seen the 2003-2009 version of Battlestar Galactica, but I can't see how the 1978 incarnation would be any better and, although I haven't seen either, the 21st century Hawaii Five-O is generally considered superior to the original show and apparently Star Wars: Clone Wars improved on Star Wars: The Clone Wars – I think you've seen both so might have an opinion.

I know it's not the same, but I thought the TV show Bates Motel was excellent, and thoroughly enjoyed Westworld, both spin-offs from feature films or, if you prefer, a different way of adapting the source material.

Great points, don't have much faith in charmed reboot , I would of liked them to went the other way with this and made them all men , I have no problem with turning male characters into female etc , but does seem Hollywood etc have a problem with doing the other way.

Whedon is involved in Buffy so have more faith in that, and with any luck they can make buffy more interesting this time as I found her the dullest character of the show.

Yes both bates motel and Westwood were excellent

David Fury is saying that the new Buffy series is "almost guaranteed" to be a new show within the same continuity rather than a remake. If this is true, then Whedon and company need to make this officially clear ASAP if they expect fan support rather than derision, because the latter has understandably been the main response thus far.

If the show was called Slayer, you could cast another actress in the main role and keep that classic opening narration explaining how "She is the Slayer". The show might benefit from a new group of actors playing different characters in a new location and perhaps with better production values and CGI than Buffy the Vampire Slayer enjoyed during its first few seasons.

In terms of the colour palette, it could hardly be more different from Argento's film, so it looks like something much darker (literally and figuratively) and with a couple of lines that seemed to evoke the personality confusion of Aronofsky's Black Swan, something which I think would make it even more interesting and involving.

‘Jacob’s Ladder’ Remake Coming to Theaters in 2019
By Michael Carpenter - August 26, 2018

At this point, nearly every classic horror film has been remade, with more coming soon, whether fans want them or not. Yet another terrific movie to get the remake treatment is 1990 mind-bender Jacob’s Ladder, directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Tim Robbins.

The titular character is a Vietnam vet haunted by his experiences during the war, resulting in a series of bizarre and terrifying hallucinations that seem to become more and more real to his disturbed mind. Its big twist is pretty famous, but I’ll refrain from spoiling it here.

Anyway, Bloody Disgusting recently confirmed that not only is a Jacob’s Ladder remake on the way, it already has a release date penciled in. Indie studio LD Entertainment (The Collection) is set to release the remake in theaters on February 1st, 2019.

Unfortunately, those – like me – who loved the original film are sure to be given pause by the reported plan to turn the remake into a “modern day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.” At that rate, why not just call it something else, am I right? Sigh.

Michael Ealy (The Following), Guy Burnet (Hand of God), Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder), and Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow) star. No word yet on who plays the remake’s equivalent of Jacob, or if the character will even be called that, although one assumes he will.

Jordan Peele In Talks to Produce Clive Barker's Candyman Remake

Jordan Peele In Talks to Produce Candyman Remake

Jordan Peele In Talks to Produce Candyman Remake

According to Bloody Disgusting, Academy Award winner Jordan Peele (Get Out) is currently in talks to produce a remake of director Bernard Rose’s 1992 horror film adaptation, Candyman. Peele would be producing the film through his Monkeypaw Productions and it is still unclear if he will also direct the remake.

Candyman was based on author Cliver Barker’s short story The Forbidden which is one of the stories from his Books of Blood short story collections. The original film follows the story of a graduate student Helen Lyle who is writing a research about local legends and myths in Chicago. While researching about the project, she meets Anne-Marie McCoy who tells her about the urban legend The Candyman, an artist and a son of a slave who had his hand severed and was then murdered by his lover’s father. Legend says that he will appear if you say his name five times in front a mirror.

The slasher film starred Tony Todd (Final Destination, Hell Fest) as the titular villain, Virginia Madsen (Dune, Sideways) as Helen and Vanessa Williams (The Flash) as Anne-Marie McCoy. It was followed by two sequels: Farewell to the Flesh and Day of the Dead.

Peele is currently busy working on a number of projects though including Universal Pictures’ social thriller film Us which will star Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong-o and Winston Duke along with The Handmaid’s Tale actress Elisabeth Moss; and the series remake of The Twilight Zone.
