So we're getting Bird Of The Crystal Apocalypse? Nice of Storaro to subject us again to his quest for a universal format that noone else agrees with.

The artwork was designed and posted here a long while before the film was put before the BBFC and when they came back and said it had been passed uncut with a 15 certificate it needed to be amended. The artwork posted here is for announcement purposes and is not reflective of the finished product.

When it comes to the 2.1 ratio, Arrow didn't have access to Blue Underground's 2.35:1 HD master so went with the best available restoration.

In this case he's supervising the transfer and suggesting how the film should be presented, so yes, he’s made a choice and his choice is to present the film in a compromised ratio, and that’s his prerogative. It’s just a strange choice.

It would be very interesting to see what the director (Argento, in this case) would have to say. He may very well be in agreement with Storaro’s choice, though I’d be inclined to doubt that.

If only I'd known this before the Blue Underground version went out of print.

This will be the first Arrow Argento release I don't pick up. I'm guessing there isn't much likelihood that should a 2.35:1 HD master become available to Arrow after release of this that they won't be interested in releasing another version of the film either? I imagine it's a pretty limited audience to attempt to release the title twice.

I'm not really in the know as to aspect ratios but "2:1 Univisium" sounds a little out the norm. Can anyone explain what that means the picture will be like exactly? Sounds like another release with fantastic features btw

Basically, that means that the ratio would be 2.00:1 as opposed to, say, 2.35:1 or 2.40:1. It is an unusual ratio and not one that you would come across very often.

2:1:1 is a ratio that falls between 2:35:1 and 1:85:1, a compromised ratio.

I just threw together a mock up 2.1 shot of Bird. Of course it isn't necessarily the way Storaro would frame it, but you get the idea.

Think I'll pass on this. 1st time I've said that about an Arrow title.
