Also, if it wasn't at the start, if it was a 4 or 5 second glitch or jump in the middle, would it still be the same in peoples mind? Just occurred to me, that since its at the start, maybe that's a reason why people are unhappy.

Exactly. Hell in Fulci's case narrative is usually damn near irrelevant. Ganted ZFE is one of his more structured films. It's a pity because that opening shot of the water, first the the boat drifting in is quite a nice mood building shot. Can't remember where I heard or read it but something was said recently about that opening being a reminder almost that NYC is on the water, open to the vast ocean. Someone on here also mentioned how it's reminiscent of Dracula's drifting into the habour in the novel. So it's a pity to have it botched in favour of alternate opening titles. Still the disc as a whole is a corker so this error is something I can and I suspect we will have to live with.

That New York City is on the water quote comes from the Romero to Rome documentary which is part of the special features on disc one of ZFE. |

I must admit I'm totally bemused how anyone could deem it unimportant to have the complete film. As for it not being part of the narrative, of course it is. The very first shot is an unmarred view of the New York skyline before the boat moves in. It's there to tell you exactly where this is taking place. It's probably the most famous skyline in the world. It's not like, say, The French Connection where most people haven't a clue what Marseille looks like so there's a blaring 'MARSEILLE' across the screen to tell you. At this point, the boat doesn't even matter or come into into it. Noone knows what's on the boat. If you'd never seen it before, the action could move straight to Broadway and you'd be none the wiser or think twice about it. It's a location pointer. |

I do think though the only chance of getting anything done might possibly be the arguement that this isn't technically an uncut presentation as Arrow claimed it would be. Maybe there's a legal arguement there. On a slightly different not did anyone have a box of eight blu-ray's go missing about three or four months back? Before the christmas delivery disasters.
