Black Emanuelle

Black Emanuelle stars Laura Gemser stars as cult leader 'The Divine One' in this early 80s sexploitation movie about a bizarre cult. Members of the group all indulge in free love and anyone who doesn't fancy rutting with wild abandon gets whipped bloody in front of everyone as an exercise in humiliation. Add to this bizarre mix some head scratching contemporary dance numbers and a vague plot about the cult leaders boyfriend falling for a senators daughter, leading to a fit of jealousy that isn't in keeping with the cults beliefs about open relationships, and you have the makings of a great piece of low rent trash.

The sex scenes are typical of early 80s softcore though they do push the limits of good taste and overall this is your standard strange Eurosleaze picture, the likes of which just don't get made anymore.

*Note the spelling. The official run of respectable Emmanuelle pictures spelt the name with two M's. To avoid any legal hassles, trashy director Joe D'Amato dropped one letter so he could gain from an already profitable franchise. He took the character into all manner of dark corners, particularly with the truly twisted Emanuelle in America, which plumbed the depths of whiplash filmmaking, combining softcore, soft focus smut with hardcore porn footage and a nasty line in extreme, Cannibal Holocaust level gore atrocities.
