No wonder they sent Mathew Hopkins over to sort them all out. He knew what was coming.

If i remember correctly, in Danse Macabre Stephen King mentions the fact that short story collections sell around half that of a novel.

Danse Macabre is quite old now, I read it in about 1987-ish, and tastes have changed. Many people now want their literature in short lengths because of the nature and pace of their lives. I personally like my literature at a shit-length which is why I read more comics now, well that and my "reader's block"!

You never see collections of short stories or anthologies crashing the bestseller's list though.
Although the Bible is a collection of stories I guess, and the sales are through the roof.

Whilst you are absolutely correct about the bestseller's lists I still maintain that anthologies must be money spinners or they wouldn't publish 'em. Being an atheist I will decline from commenting about the bible for fear of insulting and enraging someone but, staying on anthologies, without the bible we wouldn't have "bibliographies" (they'd probably just be called "book lists" or some such)!

This months "Starburst" magazine has a good article on "The Original Maniac" talking about the 1970s version of the film and, due to "Kick-Ass 2" and "Hit Girl," a list of "20 Women Who could really Kick Your Ass!"

It could have been King's On Writing book rather than Danse Macabre.

It was definitely King. It may even be in a his notes in one of his own collections.
