I watched the Anchor Bay BD of The Night Porter today and i think it looks really good. In a few scenes i recognized some light noise but far from the worst i've seen. Otherwise the natural grain is intact, detail is clear and i had no problems with the audio.

I don't know how the film was shot but compared to the Criterion DVD this release looks more "grey/green" in the colours which i personally think gives the movie some atmosphere.

...and Charlotte Rampling is awesome.

Though to be fair the 1200 has the latest firmware on it, the only issue is its a wee bit noisy but i'm used to the ps3 which is as quiet as a mouse.

I agree completely and, even though I have a 7.1 surround speaker system, I hate it when a mono track has been badly encoded and comes through the front surrounds rather than the centre channel. If a film was made in the 1960s (for example) with a mono soundtrack, I'll always choose that option from the menu rather than a brand-new DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track.

Saying that, some of the surround tracks on the new HD releases of classic Disney films are extremely good!

I don't mind stereo or surround mixes of mono films as long they're done properly. Many of them sound really puny, tinny or just plain wrong!

My surround sound system decided to remix mono/stereo tracks into 5.1. I told it to knock that crap off immediately.
