Mgm don't usually release poor prints. Shame. It didn't cost much, under £2 in total.

Picked up a cople of things second hand today, I dont normally buy random stuff I havent heard of, but these were pretty cheap. Hopefully they'll be good.

Full Contact HKL, £2 CEX
Shaft In Africa £1 CEX
One Down Two To Go £1 Charity Shop

The last one I have really never heard of, but it stars Fred Williamson, Jim Kelly, Jim Brown, Richard Roundtree and Joe Spinell. Fred Williamson also directed it. Hopefully with that many awesome people it can't be bad! :pop2::pop2:

I've never heard of it either but, with that line-up, it should be an enjoyable watch.

BioZombie 28th July 2011 06:04 PM

Maybe she's a firm believer in the saying 'Charity begins at home' and expects you to return it within the right DVD inside!

Sam 28th July 2011 06:20 PM

My last few buys have been:

Oldboy (tartan 1-disc) - £1 sealed from a Carboot sale
Leprechaun Back 2 tha Hood £1.50 from a charity shop
The Dead Zone (Cronenberg) - 99p from That's Entertainment

... as you can see, I've really been splashing out

nekromantik 28th July 2011 06:20 PM

Im tempted to get Dog Pound blu for £6

Its a great lil flick even though its a copy of Scum (which I have yet to see).

The acting by the teens is awesome esp the lad that plays Butch.

mark meakin 28th July 2011 06:33 PM

GOD'S BLOODY ACRE /TOMCATS (Code Red double bill)

When this movie was origionally released it was horribly butchered by the studio, now we get guillermero del toros orgional vision with a bunch of extras.

Shall be looking forward to this one, so long as its region free.

(p.s. These hackable players, how do they fare with the constant firmware updating? )

Blu region code lock is in the hardware, so if you update shouldn't affect it(yeah right) dvd playback always seems to reset region lock, but just re-do remote hack.

not to nit pick but thats incorrect
Bluray region codes are software based not hardware.
Reason why most players cannot be hacked is after the whole DVD hacking thing the companies got smart and took measures to stop remote control hacks.

DVD region codes were in the firmware of the disc drive itself but there was loopholes in the players software.

Baseball Fury 28th July 2011 08:16 PM

No, they're hardware based, otherwise you could just flash a player with new firmware. Nearly all big brand BD players have to be modded with an override chip to bypass the region check.

yes but the actual region check is done in the software not hardware.
the chip is needed because they wanted to stop the remote control hacks.

Run Bitch Run is a nasty sleazy piece of work, reminded me of Last House on the Left.

The final kill was pretty horrific, but awesome at the same time. Really enjoyed Run Bitch Run to be honest.

Just got this from HMV for £20, all 5 films in slipcase/box. Yeah, I know it's not as good as the US big box and book job, but for 20 quid? Had to get it.

It's £15 on their website at the moment. Not to make you feel bad or anything.

Those Damn apes!!! No sweat, but Christ, 15 notes is 3 quid a film. Surely everybody should be getting this.

keirarts 29th July 2011 05:17 PM

hmmm.....planet of the apes.

I'm checking cex!!!!

Sam 29th July 2011 05:34 PM

Picked up another 2 from 'That's Entertainment' (a haven for the cost-conscious collector ):

A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints special edition - 99p
Minority Report - 2-disc edition - 99p

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 29th July 2011 05:41 PM

If I didn't already own it, I'd definitely buy this set. £15? Even though the last two aren't great, it would be rude not to at that price!

A LOT dearer on cex... ah well.

14.99 with free postage is tempting, as are these...

Im sure criterion will get round to releasing them as well, but in recent years i've found myself trading in my criterion discs for eureka ones. (Especially kurosawa movies) as often they source better prints. These two are top on my list after the startling job they did on metropolis!
