I like Rio Bravo, though this is in spite of Wayne. I share John Carpenters views on John Ford as a director who was a little overrated. Howard Hawks was much better. I think my favourite Ford film is My darling clementine.

I have to admit I've only seen The Searchers, Rio Bravo, True Grit and The Quiet Man. Would really need to see more to have a proper opinion of John Wayne. The fact that he's pretty much the same in all four, albiet a bit self parodic in The Searchers, tells me he's probably the same in everything. And therefore it's the film not him that's either good or bad. Of the four films I've seen its only The Searchers i don't like.

You should give the 1939 film Stagecoach a watch. It's a great Western, both technically and as entertainment. It's also the film which, as legend has it, cinematographer Gregg Toland made Orson Wells go away and watch when he arrived on the set of Citizen Kane knowing nothing about filmmaking. Welles apparently watched it over 40 times in preparation for directing his first feature film, learning everything there was to know about film from Stagecoach and John Ford. He then rewrote the rules of cinema.

Two delivered to me:

Body Double (Australian, Umbrella)
Gutterballs (US import)

Both from AYM, via Amazon and less than a tenner each.

I just ordered the Italian BD set of Batman the Original Series, in the UK this is around £50-60 but the Italian version including postage cost me £17.17!!

The front of the box is in English, the disc menus are in English as well as the print on the discs, the back of the box is in Italian.
