License to Kill (1989)
The Road Warrior (1981)
Die Hard (1988)

Beverley Hills Cop (1984)
Invasion USA (1985)
See, I'd class Beverly Hills Cop as a comedy 'primarily' (). There really isn't a great deal of action in it (which is why I included it in my list of 'questionable' titles above). However this is of course your list and I will not judge your choices (except to say that Invasion USA is shite! )

Good call on the Bond films, as it didn't even cross my mind to include those. This could be a little easier than I initially thought.

There's going to be a Martial Arts topic?!

I think we know who Nordy's replacement host will be for future lists!

I'm happy to change BH Cop for Bloodsport as i was agonizing over the Van Damme epic more than any.

Now changed.

Now, I don't want to sway your decision as I'm a big advocator of broad genres (as you well know) and it's certainly true that BHC has action elements to it - plus it's a great film and Bloodsport is awful.

You seem to know rather a lot of about these upcoming list topics...

This was difficult for me because it's not one of my favourite genres. I purposely didn't include Bond because I consider them adventure or spy films rather than action. I didn't include Big Trouble in Little China or Beverly Hills Cop because they are comedy films to me and I didn't include any Jackie Chan because Martial Arts is separate to action in my opinion.

There might be some contention where Aliens is concerned but in all aspects it's an action film, it just happens to be set in space.

  • Escape from New York (1981)
  • 1990: The Bronx Warriors (1982)
  • First Blood (1982)
  • The Terminator (1984)
  • Commando (1985)
  • Aliens (1986)
  • Top Gun (1986)
  • Robocop (1987)
  • The Running Man (1987)
  • Die Hard (1988)

What about The Running Man? Surely that's sci-fi, comedy, game show, and action.

Completely agree with you here - which is probably why I don't rate it anywhere near as highly as I do the phenomenal original.

The same goes for Dawn of the Dead in a lot of ways. To me it's an 'action horror' film, itself one on the main reasons I don't rate it very highly.

As you can probably tell I'm not a big action film fan.
