Another great film that is very much like a western but i didn't include is Bad Day at Black Rock.

Also, The Shootist.

I think you are getting me confused with the Inspector.

I really want to see Johnny Guitar as well, it just got restored last year so I expect some new discs to come out soon.

I do find it curious that Westerns, a topic quite a few mentioned they expected to struggle with is actually going great guns. Whereas last week's body horror theme died a death.

There are quite a few modern takes on the western i'd like to see.

Slow West
The Homesman

Anyone who's seen any of them feel, free to comment on them.
I've seen Slow West twice and thought it was excellent, enjoying it more the second time around. Kodi Smit-McPhee puts in his best performance to date, with Michael Fassbender predictably compelling to watch. It is beautifully shot and an engrossing watch, so highly recommended.

The same goes for The Homesman, which you should expect with Oscar-winning actors Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank in the lead roles, with Jones also directing. It is a fascinating story and shows the hardship of frontier life – again, highly recommended.

I considered both for my list and somehow forgot about them in the 'honourable mentions'.

Thanks for the input, Nos. I'll definitely order them in the coming days.

I reviewed it a while ago. I thought it was a perfectly acceptable remake that was very entertaining. Its hard to criticise it as being a remake seeing as the origional was a remake of seven samurai.
