It does seem a weird decision but, if what you say is correct and they couldn't find a HD master of the director's cut, it would make sense to put the SD elements into the restored theatrical cut, either as a different film or by seamless branching.

Even better, why wasn't an HD master created of the Director's Cut? It's Barker's preferred version, as it is mine. I'm pretty sure all DVD releases were of the Director's Cut, so it's the only version I've seen and the one I'm used to. Since I already have the Director's Cut in SD on DVD, then there's no point in buying the Blu-ray. Order cancelled.

looking on there facebook page seems most people are doing the same and cancelling orders. how hard would of have been to insert the footage into the theatrical cut? the drop in quality in those places would not of bothered me.
