I feel exactly the same way about those films and those Steelbooks.

Indeed, Scanners and The Brood will have no problems with the BBFC whatsoever. They'll be fully uncut on BD just as they were on DVD. Unless Second Sight erroneously source a cut master - but that's highly doubtful, as they seem to know their onions.

Hey, just a different opinion, that's all. I don't expect people to enjoy what I do (in fact, most probably wouldn't ).

But there's two golden rules on this forum:

1: Daemonia is always right
2: When Daemonia is wrong, refer to rule No. 1

Just kiddin' (before the whole forum beats me up)

I meant certificate wise. The v&g in Scanners is prity over the top. Could be boarderline 15 IMHO. The sequels are even more mild.
The brood may also be 15 material now. It's very similer in tone to Xtro.
Either way, I'll still be getting them, the certificatim system for movies of yester year facinates me.

It will be interesting to see what the BBFC decide in terms of the certification and customer guidelines for both titles and wouldn't be surprised if Scanners was, in the light of a seemingly more liberal approach by the boys at Soho Square, to see Scanners classified 15 as there is very little in the way of strong language and, if I remember correctly, no sex or nudity.

The Brood, however, would surprise me if it were given a 15 certificate due to the atmosphere, kills and general weirdness! As I said above though, I don't think there's any reason why a 15 certificate would be beyond the realms of possibility.

In any case, I'm sure you'll be able to acquire a copy of each by cheating or reasoning with your parents!

Yeah, the tone of The Brood is perhaps too serious and dark, what we see might be 15 worthy, but the context makes it a bit more disturbing and thought provoking...maybe.

Though to be honest, I lost track of any consistency in the BBFC's certification system long, long ago.

I think films should be certificated not merely on grounds of "sex & violence", but also tone and theme. To pick the old warhorse, Citizen Kane, this is a U certificate in the UK, yet it's subject matter is an adult one unlikely to be understood or appreciated by those under 15, say. The system as it is reduces cinematic suitability to a question of exposure to tits and blood.
