What? So did Arrow just get stitched over by someone then by telling them they could only release Storaro's version?

I'd imagine VCI has either licenced Blue Underground's transfer (most likely) or has created a new transfer. Either way it will have cost a lot of dough.

So, this has to beg the question, why couldn't Arrow have also licensed BU's transfer? I'm still unclear as to why Arrow couldn't use BU's transfer. At the time it was said that BU wouldn't let them have access to it, but if (and we're not certain on this yet, mind) BU have granted VCI use of their transfer, then what was the issue with Arrow using it?

I'd take a guess at: $$$$

That may well be true. But how many lost sales did Arrow have because of the incorrect ratio? So, in the long run, did they really save money?

Of course, this is all just speculation and I have no idea what happens in Arrow business meetings. But if the issue was cost, then I think it was the wrong decision. How many people who would've bought Arrow's release then rushed to get BU's release when the news broke that Arrow's release was in the incorrect ratio? I think quite a few sales were lost because of the ratio issue. And more will be lost still once VCI's release hits retailers. Given the choice, fans will almost certainly go for the one with the correct ratio.

We were told that the lab would only supply Storaro's reframed version. It'll be interesting to see where VCI source their transfer from...

As far as I can remember, your last point is correct and the only version Arrow could purchase was the 'Storaro approved' print. If that's the case, it would be very interesting to find where this new master was from.

Aye aye aye, this Bird will never leave us.

If it turns out we've been hoodwinked just to save some dosh, ther'e going to be some serious egg on Arrow's face. PR disaster.

Well, people didn't have to buy it (and I know a lot of people didn't).
