I saw this a while back didnt think it was that bad.. Thought it was ok for a watch but like you said tho no real explanation of anything. And yes the ending was pants ..

Watched recently

Tron legacy...enjoyed this bit like a new remake in a way but with a slightly dif story line...everything about this worked well. the action, graphics, Music story, whats NOT to like

The Hangover...The fillm was ok..BUT ..Didnt think it was as funny as everyone making it out to be...But had its moments...Either that or im losing my sense of humour...

Feast ... comdey horror entertaining in a no brainer way gore fest

Hudson hawk...Doesnt deserve the slagging off it got by the critics...

Death race 2 ...I enjoyed this plenty of action etc ...

Yes, that's the one. Why did you turn it off? It becomes far more interesting as it goes on and the ending is brilliant.

I've watched four films today:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High – not quite the greatest film about high school ever made, but still a funny and touching movie. It's quite funny to see Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Leigh looking so young.

Russian Ark – at over 90 minutes, this takes you through hundreds of years of Russian history without a single cut. It's a quite astonishing piece of filmmaking and is really one to watch.

Iron Man 2 -- it's not as involving or as well placed as the first one and, like its predecessor, I got bored when it turned into Transformers, but it's worth watching just for the interaction between Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Save the Green Planet – this is a completely barmy piece of filmmaking but the acting is top notch and it keeps you involved right until the end credits. If you like the weird side of Korean movies, this is a must watch film.

I've had "Russian Ark" for ages, thanks for mentioning it, I'll have to give it a play.:)

This is going to sound bad i know, i hate the way Koreans wail and cry in films, sooo over the top. I have around 40/50 Asian films and it tends to be only Koreans who do this.
I do have several Korean films, but this was way too much.

Save the green planet is brilliant!

I watched Bad Biology last night, recorded off the Horror Channel, and it was one of the worst films I've ever seen. terrible effects, terrible performances, shoed in hip-hop and porno 'stars'. If it wasnt for my girlfriend wanting to know how this piece of turd ended up, it would have been off after 20 minutes.

pedromonkey 11th June 2011 02:04 PM

watched Paul last night, it was ok, not what i expected from Frost and Pegg, there were some nice sci-fi references and nods to Spielberg but it could have been much funnier. Seth Rogan as Paul's Voice steals the entire film.

Then i Watched Noah's Castle, this really dark childrens show from 1979 that is a bout the economic downfall and how prices on food and other stuff rises and about a family that move to a big house and store food in the cellar only for people to find out and try to take it for them selves. This was kids tv back in 79 not like the shit we have these days.. It also has Mike Reid (Frank Butcher) in it as a scumbag black marketeer...very bleak...

I've been looking at "Noah's Castle" for a bit, I'll definitely be getting it now.

I should really make time to watch both seasons of Twin Peaks again but it may take some time due to the enormous pile of unwatched DVDs and BDs I own. I've also recorded Predators so, for good or ill, I'm going to watch that before I get round to Twin Peaks!

Twin Peaks is brilliant - the best TV series ever made, in my opinion. :D

I also agree with you on Predators - I recently rented it from Love Film, and found it to be utterly terrible. A shame really, as it had an interesting premise.

Think the Japanese do it as well, the shouty screaming in stuff like 'Battle Royale' really can put you off. Two characters may only be a couple of metres apart but it's "WAAAAH....TAMAKI!!!!". Arty Japanese films are very quite indeed. maybe it comes from a Manga/Anime thing.

Demdike@Cult Labs 11th June 2011 09:47 PM

Just watched The Mechanic.

Very violent, surprised the BBFC gave it a 15 cert.

enjoyable though.

Just watched this again, brilliant late 70's cult item starring James Brolin. Can't recommend this movie enough:clap:

pedromonkey 12th June 2011 02:37 PM

Just finished watching Stake Land, one of the best films of the year so far for me, it was heart felt, brutal and extremely well acted. written and directed. Reminded me of The Road and The Postman but with added Vampires...awesome!

Cinema

The Hangover Part 2
X-Men: First Class

:D

bdc 12th June 2011 07:03 PM

Finished watching Horror of the Blood Monsters yesterday...had to watch it with the Sam Sherman commentary (which was fun and interesting) because this was really a dreadful patchwork of parts of an acquired b/w Filipino movie and footage shot by Adamson and Sherman.
They tinted the b/w footage to match the colour footage btw... :loco:

I'd say the Adamson footage was fun,the original Filipino movie at least well made (from the looks of it) and Sherman's footage nutty but the finished film was actually a big bore imho.

Was planning on watching some movies today but had to disinfect my computer (mall/ad ware etc)...
Everything seems to be running fine now though so I'll hopefully be able to watch something tonight. :)

Yep,that's a good one!

BioZombie 13th June 2011 10:07 AM

I totally forgot that I had a copy of 5 Deadly Venoms, so yesterday I decided to watch it. Its awsome, I love the atomosphere, the kung fu, the story Shaw Brothers are pretty hard to beat when it comes to martial arts films.

Also saw Hangover 2 and X-Men First Class at the cinema recently. Hangover was funny, but it was pretty much beat for beat the first film, so I didnt enjoy it as much as the part 1.

X-Men First Class was really cool, my GF is a huge fan of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, so she was in her element. If you like X-Men it's definately worth a watch and totally makes up for X-Men 3 & Wolverine

Demoncrat 13th June 2011 11:30 AM

its either a feast or a famine with me...

PAUL...liked it mair than i though i would, great drinking game, every time you spot a reference etc, pissed in 25 minutes :pound:

RUBBER...hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha oo ive wet 'em. 4th film of year

ENTER THE VOID...was too drunk by this point, will watch again tomorrow, though it did look like 2001 and irreversible had had a baby

SCREAM XXX...parody, most enjoyable yet IMO

DOGTOOTH....greek family drama, the waltons it isnt.....

QUATERMASS AND THE PIT...did i mention i like this film??

pedromonkey 13th June 2011 12:13 PM

finally got around to watching Black Swan last night, it's an absolutely stunning film and no wonder Natalie Portman won the oscar for best actress. It starts off as this sort of arthouse flick then slowly turns into this really messed up psychological thriller that did remind me of Argento and De Palma.

Then i watched to lighten the mood, Risky Business, what a great early film from
Tom Cruise. Funny, dramatic, sexy and Rebecca De Mornay is quite cute as the hooker. Well worth a look.

mercury 14th June 2011 07:35 PM

Watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice

Rec 2:popcorn: I really liked this one. Not wanting to use spoilers, so I'll just say I liked and was surprised by the direction the film took compared to the story of the Rec:)

James Morton 14th June 2011 07:49 PM

What films have you seen recently?

Lindsay Anderson's O LUCKY MAN with Malcolm McDowell
A send up of the British establishment in the early 70's
and very good
THE SIXTH SENSE - overrated crap
THE SHINING - ditto

Sacrilege! The Sixth Sense is one of the best written and directed horror films of the 1990s and The Shining is a true horror masterpiece.

kingofwitches666 14th June 2011 09:07 PM

Finally got round to watching my Buried BD today. Pretty good film, great performance from Ryan Reynolds.

Don't think I'd be bothered about watching it again though, so I think I'll be putting it up for trade on here.

I saw the Sixth Sense at the cinema and have owned the region 1 dvd since the day it came out.

I am yet to watch the dvd.

Its the ultimate one watch movie.

I've just finished watching A Blade in the Dark by Lamberto Bava.

Well, did I like it? The answer would be: to some extent.

I liked the gory killings, I liked the nasty score and I loved the whole first murder scene of Katia - with the chase in the beginning and the "disposal" afterwards. Some really creepy camera angles! The pre-credit scene is also top-notch.

However, I disliked the main actor. In my eyes, the word "dull" is an euphemism for Andrea Occhipinti's acting qualities (I have to rewatch The New York Ripper to find out if he's always like that) - he's a living sleeping pill in this flick. I also disliked the pace of the movie. There's nothing to say against a mixture of scary scenes and fillers in between - but in this movie, for much too long nothing happens at all. I'd say that you could easily cut out about 20 minutes without negative effects on the movie.

As to Bruno's girlfriend: she's kinda cute, but a real nag. I would have supported any action in the style of :croc:. So you can imagine my face during her "final" scene.

Altogether, it's a movie that you can watch - it's no waste of money, it has its qualities. Let's put it this way: I was not amazed, but I was satisfied. ;)

Greetings!

Andydn 14th June 2011 09:46 PM

I agree with that review mate, it's def good and worth having but it's a middle of the road example, something missing that stops it being a classic slasher/giallo

Make Them Die Slowly 14th June 2011 10:00 PM

The Nicholas Cage "Bad Lieutenant". Most enjoyable once you forget the original film. Sort of reminded me of James Ellroy's early novels being humped by Hunter S. Thompson.

DryJack 14th June 2011 10:48 PM

So far this week I've watched "Cube 2" which was ok but nowhere near as good as the first movie, a second viewing of "Zombieland" which I enjoyed a lot more than the first time I watched it, "The living dead at Manchester morgue" ('nuff said) and best of all, "Meatball Machine". Crazy Japanese cyberpunk. Loved every minute. About to watch "The story of Ricky".

That's a fair summation of A Blade in the Dark I think. The reason it seems to drag is that it was oiginally intended as a four part mini-series with a death at the end of each half-hour episode. You could easily shave off about half an hour from it to up the pacing I think.

Mojo 15th June 2011 06:58 PM

Turkish horror double bill!

The Dead Don't Talk
Various people enter a mansion haunted by a ( constantly ) laughing ghost who wears a floppy hat and big overcoat. It's hard to know where to start with this one, but it's a bit like watching a film that's showing its reels in the wrong order. Or something. Hilariously bad.

Thirsty For Love Sex And Murder
Turkish Giallo which is basically a remake/ rip-off of The Strange Vice Of Mrs Wardh, only with a bit less nudity and a few more moustaches. Not bad.
