Decemberdike # 14 Christmas Evil (1980) A toy factory worker, mentally scarred as a child upon learning Santa Claus is not real, and actually shags his mum, suffers a nervous breakdown after being belittled at work, and embarks on a Yuletide killing spree. Except he doesn't, not really. Christmas Evil is a character study rather then a horror film and it's difficult not to be sympathetic towards the downtrodden Harry. However the plot intricacies aren't much different to say Halloween (1978) or any other horror film about mental scarring at a young age but what it gains in characterization it totally loses in horror value. John Waters may love this film but it ain't a patch on the grotty Brit bloodshed of Don't Open Till Christmas. |

Seems Like Old Times. Chevy Chase is a writer kidnapped and forced to take part in a bank robbery by two armed thugs. On the run, he elects to hide out with his ex-wife (Goldie Hawn), while trying to avoid the police, and her new husband (Charles Grodin), who just happens to be the new Attorney General! Soap's Robert Guillame co-stars in this entertaining and funny early 80s comedy. |

Going to make an effort to review stuff on here.... Lifes just been a bit hectic.... Suicide squad extended cut Its still worth a watch, but the extended cut didn't really push me into thinking it was anything extraordinary. Its not as bad as batman v superman in that it at least feels somewhat coherent. Its fun but my issues are still the awful, awful editing and the twi-shite take on the Joker that's possibly the worst on screen take on the character I've seen. Not at all scary or intimidating. Turns out Lex Luthor was a better joker. Crimes of passion Ultra lurid pulp noir that takes on Americas attitude to sex and gleefully directed by Ken Russell. A private detective investigates a professional who moonlights as a whore for kicks and is being terrorised by Anthony perkins as a deranged metal dildo wielding priest intent on 'saving her'. Its a film that's going to turn off half its audience but those who dig it will find lots to enjoy. |

I read an article about Deadpool this morning and why it is, for better or worse, the most important superhero movie of 2016, and remembered a discussion here a week or so ago. For those who have seen the film, the article is a good read with plenty of good points about whether we have reached saturation level for superhero movies and whether there will be a sequel.
