I enjoyed Night of the seagulls.

Personally I think Galleon is the worst one, but having said that i still like it.

I need to give them all a rewatch at some point, from what i remember the second one was my favourite.

Same here. The Templars attacking the town is great fun.

Gutterballs (2008)

Ryan Nicholson's rape / revenge film set in a bowling alley.

A homage to eighties slasher films but this is far harder in it's depiction of violence and sex than the cult classics it wants to emulate.

Excellent gore, shame the film is populated by dodgy wannabe porn stars and never gonna be actors.

Not for the easily offended.

Doppelganger (1993)

Drew Barrymore plays a young woman who after being implicated in a murder flees New York and moves to Los Angeles where she rents a room from a writer. They begin an affair and then things start to get weird.

The idea of Barrymore's split personality or maybe a supernatural evil half gives the film an ambiguity which helps maintain the tension level until we reach the amazing finale. A finale which is a wonderfully gloopy Hellraiser inspired practical FX fest courtesy of Howard Berger and Greg Nicotero and is refreshing in the extreme.

The only thing that really hampers Doppelganger is that tv movie style sheen that so many direct to video movies were lumbered with in the eighties and early nineties. Other than that this remains very entertaining thirty years on.

Inside (2023, Vasilis Katsoupis)

Wilem Dafoe tries to steal someone's child ..... no no no

One man show here as WD is stranded by his accomplices and left to his fate. How he copes with this is the plot of this film. Did like this one and will probably recommend here. Ahem.

Soul Brothers Of Kung Fu (1987, Hwa I Hung)

Two Asian brothers team up with a black youngster to right those wrongs. Madness. The kicking is plentiful. If only the print wasn't so faded that nearly everything is the same colour (walls, shirts, cars )
Recommended.

Tombs Of The Blind Dead. 1972.

13th century Templar Knights find a way to live forever by satanic rituals and drinking human blood. Their plan goes downwards when they are executed. Jump forward to the present and a group of people stumble upon the knights temple.

Yeah I know I watched the third movie first and then gone back to the beginning, We are given a back story to the knights and the reason they are blind that the crows pecked their eyes out. On a train ride, jealousy erupts between two girls and one jumps off a moving train...not exactly great thinking but hey ho, she finds the temple in the middle of a quiet village and then goes missing, till some people show up and start investigating.

We know nobody won any kind of award for their acting and the dubbing isn't' great but not terrible either, ( I know those words in a sentence together doesn't match but it does). The setting is decent for the monastery and gives off that Gothic vibe we love. The film does rely more on atmosphere rather than blood and gore even though they was one or two decent kills. I don't know if it just me but the pace of the movie does go slow and decent then slow, but nice moments of seeing the knights as zombies on horse back.

Return Of The Evil Dead. 1973.

The Templar Knights return from the dead to a rural village to terrorise everyone during a celebration.

Amando De Ossorio returns to the director's chair for this sequel and manages somehow to make it feel like remake with a bigger budget. I'm sure there was a little bit of stock footage snuck in from the previous film. Anyway the Knights return during a celebration and survivors try to bind together and try to keep quiet as the Knights rely on sound.

There is some daft moments thrown in but also some decent crafted chilling moments and some decent kills that come with some good gore and splices some atmospheric shots that the film can rely on both kills and chills to work together. The acting isn't too bad along with some decent dubbing thrown in, along with the undead being on screen more and a bit of a strange yet laughable ending, this was certainly enjoyable sequel.

The Iron Claw. 2023.

Biography charting the life of the wrestling family The Von Erichs.

Holt McCallany plays the patriarch Fritz who is the big Texas wrestler and encourages his sons Kevin, Michael, David and Kerry to follow in his footsteps, and shows how tough of a man and father he is. Zac Efron is the second oldest brother David trying to do what is right by the family and do something his father couldn't do and get the championship wrestling belt.

You don't have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy the film or know about the "Von Erirch Curse", David seems to drop a few bits in and brushes it off. The film does mention the older brother who passed away at 6 years old but for some reason writer/ director Sean Durkin missed out the other brother Chris, having said that Durkin did do his research on the family. The acting in this was perfect as you can feel the heart break when a death was on screen and the lengths David went to protect his own family. Certainly recommended.

Decoys 2: Alien Seduction (2007)

A direct to dvd sequel to the 2004 film Decoys in which aliens disguise their selves as human females in order to mate with human males and fertilise them with their eggs / spores in order for their race to survive.

Basically a Species rip off crossed with a high school frat comedy. A decent mix of action horror and sexy goings on with both gooey practical and CGI FX work. Tobin Bell and Dina Meyer give the film a bit of acting class and the snowy college campus is a little different.

A film which thankfully can be watched independently of the inferior first movie and a dvd i've seen a few times over the years and although it's nothing special i still enjoy it and would certainly pick it up were it ever released on Blu-ray over here.
