H6 Diary of a Serial Killer

Philleh, I watched this film you recommended.

As far as censorship is concerned it doesn't surprise me that the BBFC passed it uncut as the violence is rather restrained. There are only 2 scenes that could have had problems here. The scene at 17m and the scene at 46m. These are the lengthy torture scenes involving women. The latter scene is virtually a re run of the first scene. Anyway there was never any question that the BBFC would have considered cuts here. The women for a start are allowed to keep their clothes on, which greatly reduces any chance of cuts. Even during the several rape scenes (Part of the torture scenes) the attacker keeps his clothes on. We know for sure that in a more exploitative film this would never happen. This type of restraint will always go down well with the BBFC. Then of course you have the chainsaw murders, but again there is no explicit detail just shots of blood splashing over faces. Apart from the rape and chainsaw attack there is no other violence. I thought the scenes were quite acceptable. Of course there is other violence in the film directed at men. The staircase murder was quite sadistic as well as drawn out.

Compared to Murder Set Pieces - very tame. But it is a far better film, and Antonio Frau as the killer turns in a excellent performance.

An absolutly amazing film! Probably who of the greatest vampire films of all time and one of the greatest films of the 80's! It's soooo good! And I love the little references in it too like TCM, Peter Pan, Edgar Allan Poe, etc. BRILLIANT! Definetly deserves a 5/5!

5/5!!!!

Whatever you do,stay clear of Lost Boys:The Tribe.Biggest pile of steaming dogturd I have ever seen in my life. Not even Corey Fledman and a quick appearance by a drugged out Corey Haim could save it.Already heard talk of a part 3.....GOD HELP US

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 18th August 2008 07:56 PM

That bad eh?:ack:

Stephen@Cult Labs 18th August 2008 08:09 PM

I suppose if there hadn't been a Lost Boys 1 it would be passable. Not even the naked breasts can save it lol

I bought Pieces for ?1.00 in Woolworths - not a bad little film and well worth a quid. Someone mentioned it here but I can't remember who (sorry) but they commented on Linda Day's "Baaaaaastarrrrrrd" so when it came on I was in fits of laughter, especially as she says it three times and each time more hysterical - brilliant. The ending is rather bizarre though and totally unexpected.

I also bought Spiders, also from Woolies for a quid. Hmmmm.... Shite mostly but some good bits... again worth a quid.

Another purchase was Hatchet. I'm glad I bought this at a bargain price because I was very disappointed. There is some nice work here with some decent scenes but mostly it was just re-treads of older films we've seen (a hundred times) before like Friday 13th etc. Wasn't sure if it was meant to be a horror or a piss take to be honest.

It's a hilarious film. The 'Bad chop suey' sequence is a real giggle, plus Paul L Smiths's Hulk impersonation during his attempted arrest. http://www.shameless-films.com/forum...es/biggrin.gif

That's a shame, I was kind of looking forward to seeing the Frog brothers back in action. I'll just have to stick to the comic series they brought out to coincide with it 'Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs' that's pretty good.

Yeah, only Corey feldman returns with an end credits appearance by Corey Haim.Jamison Newlander does appear as Alan Frog in the alternate endings on the dvd/blu-ray though and I have read that the 3 of them will apparently be the stars of Lost Boys 3,If anything comes of it.The director of The Tribe has said that it's been quite successful for Warner so we may well see the third part soon.

I heard a rumour that it's been so successful they're going to put part 3 out on the big screen... Should be interesting...

Yeah I heard that as well.Hopefully they can make it a lot better than The Tribe.I did a search for the alternate endings of The Tribe on youtube and found some clips of The two Corey's reality show of them filming Haim's cameo.Cory Haim was out of his face on prescription drugs when he filmed it because he was so nervous!

Sarah@Cult Labs 19th August 2008 09:30 PM

I never liked Corey Haim... I was always a Feldman girl. Despite poor reviews I'll have to be watching it anyway - out of compulsion if nothing else. I love The Lost Boys... Brilliant film! Shame the sequels getting iffy reviews (despite being successful - bizarre!) :ack:

The Bad Chop Suey is bizarre and funny (if not a little offensive to Chinese people).

Can you explain the ending? Is it a response to the theory that only 'slutty girls' get punished for sex? Instead it's the guy who gets punished for sex - after complaining that his girlfriend is making too much noise during sex - another hiliarious scene.

This film falls into the so bad it's good category :)

Halloween_22 20th August 2008 09:48 AM

Picked up a couple of dvd's from the big Zavvi sale yesterday.

The Dark
Irreversible I've yet to see this, been meaning to for a long time now
Barbarella :D
Dead Silence

Watched 'Dead Silence' last night, it was alright. It had it's moments but I was slightly disappointed. It was kind of cool that the dummy was called Billy and resembled the other Billy. Nice little Saw reference.

I also recently bought 'The Video Dead' on vhs which arrived this morning :woot: (set me back almost 15 quid though :ack:) I'll be watching that tonight, can't wait.

Angel 20th August 2008 10:24 AM

I thought Irreversible was an excellent film. There was never any chance whatsoever of the BBFC cutting it. Even so I can't see it ever turning up on TV.

vincenzo 20th August 2008 10:27 AM

Have you seen Baise Moi, Angel?

"Irreversible" is brilliant, just as Angel said! It's designed to make u feel sick - ie. the music, the camera, blah blah blah. You'll enjoy it - if u can stomach it ;)

I've recently gone a little 'Amityville Horror' craaazy! Watched both the original and the remake last night. The original was very good - although not completly true to the TRUE (IMO!) story it is quite loyal. But as for the remake, I have 3 letters to sum that film up; W and T and F! WTF! Nothing and I mean NOTHING is true in that film - they even got the house number wrong! As I said WTF.

So I'd say READ the BOOK! It is the scariest book I've ever read - I've never felt scared when reading b4. Does anyone else believe this? I know that ppl find human monsters - ie. in Scream or Friday The 13th scary - but I find the supernatural A HELL OF A LOT SCARIER!!!!!!!! Ghosts, demons, witches (sometimes), spirits, poltergiests!

They give me the hebbie-jebbies!

Oh yeh, the DVD I have of the original has a really good commentary and in it he talks about what he says is the 'truth' about death. Says heaven and hell are just fantasies - when u die your spirit goes into a parellel universe or something and if u wanna go back you have to speak to a "clerk" (his words) and you'll be reincarnated into this world. Really interesting stuff.

I'm with you on that one, I could watch films with people getting disembowled and chopped to pieces and what not for hours and not be affected in the slightest, however, put something on about the supernatural and i'll be reduced to a trembling wreck (:D OK, slight exaggeration, i'm not that bad) but it freaks me out. I find that stuff much scarier. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to ghosts and stuff, I saw The Grudge at the cinema and was terrified

Yes it was alright but I think they over did all the hard core stuff. Irreversible by comparison was quite restrained.

Have you ever seen the original version of The Haunting? Possibly one of the most frightening supernatural films ever!

When you say witches sometimes, you referring to 'Blair Witch Project' by any chance? That film shit me up something rotten first time I saw it. Hopefully i'm not the only one  :D

Watched 'The Video Dead' and 'Terror at the Red Wolf Inn' last night. Two slices of good trashy 70's/80's fun. Two thumbs up.

Yep, that's EXACTLY what i meant! I was SOOOOO scared when I saw that lol! I haven't felt scared watching a horror film since I saw 'The Exorcist' - another supernatural film too! And 'The Blair Witch Project' never even had any gore or anything! A truly amazing film!

If you like Blair Witch you should like the original Haunting. That has no gore either. Only one special effect. The rest just relies on noises and squiffy camera angles. One to watch on your own with the lights off to get the full effect I always think!

Blair Witch put the shits up me too!

I have seen it recently I think it requires a it of a belief in thew supernatural.

That woman is totally a lesbian in it though.

Wilson Bros 22nd August 2008 08:54 AM

Nick bought me a copy of the <ahem> unofficial Four Flies on Grey Velvet for my birthday.

It's pretty good, even if a vastly inferior print is used at times to fill in for material not present in the master-copy.

A few nice extras in the form of trailers and alternate opening and closing credits round the thing off.

The chances of an official release are still slim, so this is the best option Argento fans have at the moment to get hold of one of his most elusive titles.

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 22nd August 2008 10:07 AM

Watched 'Zombies' (the prize for both Reaper's comp and the picture comp) AKA 'Wicked Little Things', although a better title for the film IMO, would have been 'Attack Of The Killer Cliches'. Yep, this film is full of them - which I wont list as I don't want to spoil anything. But apart from that the film was very good - the acting was good, the gore looked good and I LUVed the idea of the zombies being children - munching away at people's inards. WE NEED TO SEE MORE ZOMBIE CHILDREN IN CINEMA! lol! I'd give it a 3.75/5!!!!!

I forked out for that too and glad I did. It's one of my favourites. Loved what he did with the scene in the park, liked Mimsy Farmer, and how about that final shot? Gorgeous.

dougal 25th August 2008 08:23 PM

Fatal Flying Guillotine

Picked it up for a few quid in Zavvi - never heard of it. A confusing plot, odd characters but 80+ minutes of pretty much none stop kung fu  The print is pretty awful though - widescreen but washed out and very scratched - it could do with some Shameless style love and attention but then perhaps the low cost it's selling at precludes that.

That aside it's great fun in an uncomplicated post pub on a Friday sort of way...

Watched this on sunday night and its very creepy.Sounds right up your street mate.

Sam 26th August 2008 06:59 PM

Recent buys for me are:

Flesh and Blood Show - OK early slasher but not up there with the best of Pete Walker's films in my opinion. The transfer on the R2 Odeon DVD looked a bit murky to me but I've not seen the R1 to compare.

Corrupt Leiutenant - an Italian thriller starring Harvey Keitel and (oddly) Johny 'Rotten' Lydon. I bought it from a pound shop so can't be too fussy but it's an obvious VHS transfer. The film itself starts off intruigingly enough but peters out towards the end. Worth a look for a quid though!!

There were a couple of plot points that detracted from the nice eerie buid up that this film has,but even at that i still enjoyed it.

If you like a scary flick, you could do a lot worse than this.:)

By the way no chance of an uncut UK release.

Yeah - I saw this one on Redemption UK video years ago. It is pretty bad, but quite enjoyable if you've got your brain screwed on the wrong way.

It was cut when issued by Redemption back then ( what wasn't? ) but I thought it might scrape through today.
