STUDENT BODIES. 1981 spoof of slasher films, as if the real ones aren't funny enough.

Star Trek Into Darkness, I thought it was fantastic and a easy 10/10.

GIMME SHELTER. F*ck you hippies, the dream is dead. Contains a really mean and raw sounding version of the song Gimme Shelter at the end, which is worth watching the film for on it's own. If you know nothing of the cultural and political background of the times I imagine this has less impact than with this knowledge. Excellent.

Just finished watching The Keep from Film4's screening a few weeks back. Absolutely loved it, I don't think I've seen anything so atmospheric in my life. What fantastic use of effects, location and sound. Would love to see this on Blu-ray, what's stopping it from getting a proper release it deserves? On a side note I bet the smoke machine bill was half the budget

Welcome to the huge ranks of fans desperate for this to get a quality release. Unfortunately there seems little will from Paramount (who I think still own the film but the rights may have lapsed) and Michael Mann who really seems to dislike the film. Certainly IF Paramount still own it don't expect any respectful release of this film as its a Horror movie and they don't 'do' Horror aside from all those time they suckled at the teet of Friday 13th when they had financial problems. Still it might mean they dump the film with Warner's or Lionsgate and perhaps someone might recognize the cash to be made from a release. All the extra footage (or at least a whole bunch of it) seems to be there. Hell if anyone can tell me how I can acquire the rights i'll release it myself!

What I watched tonight was...

Boffo!: A HBO documentary examining why some films perform well and others die at the box office and confirms what William Goldman claimed, that no one in Hollywood knows anything.

The Sweet hereafter: Atom Egoyan's excellent adaptation of the Russell Banks novel about a Lawyer who comes to a small town after a group of kids is killed in a road accident on a bus. As he goes around town speaking to locals looking to drum up support for a lawsuit dark secrets in the town begin to surface.

Not seen this since the 90's, when I had to badger the Librarian to get the library services only tape into town so I could loan it. It's still a powerful piece of cinema today.

To days films were:

The List A German production of a British film. An interesting idea - What seems like a good idea, a list of the top 100 corrupt people in the U.K. as voted by an on-line audience, goes terribly wrong when someone starts to murder the number one person. A decent cast, in the lead roles at least, but the lack of tension in what is meant to be a thriller is unforgivable and so I can only give it a lukewarm recommendation. The producer and director gave a Q&A after the film (in German) which made me feel even more disappointed as to what the film could have been.

Willow Creek The "European Premiere" with Bobcat Goldthwait providing an introduction and Q&A. I really enjoyed this at Fantasia and second time round it was just as good. Highly recommended.

and finally The Image a film about an S&M love triangle from the mind of Radley Metzger who was there in person to provide a very long introduction. I quite like this arthouse porno, it has an interesting theme and is relatively tastefully made. There were a couple of (male) walkouts, perhaps they went to tend to themselves in the bathroom?

Its the final day of the Oldenburg International Film Festival tomorrow. I have two films planned for the afternoon. The Dirties which was sold out at Fantasia and the final part of the Bobcat Goldthwait retrospective World's Greatest Dad which I also ordered last week on bluray from Amazon.de.

Then its off home for a couple of weeks rest (I will be in Bristol next week and hope to see Rush and possibly Red 2) before the Hamburg International Film festival at the end of the month.

It's a chilling film of an incident which, along with Manson, was responsible for killing off the 60's ideal

I think the hippy idea actually died a few years before this but everyone was too wrecked to notice.

Still it is quite funny when Mick gets off the helicopter only to get punched.
