Presently watching Grizzly. I misunderstood the write up as it is not the epic gay cannibal film I thought it was going to be.

Starry Eyes (2014)

An aspiring young actress struggling to make ends meet. Upon getting to a third stage audition she is faced with the age old Hollywood dilemma - How far will you go to achieve your dream?

Starry Eyes is an utterly compelling film carried by a terrific, thoroughly engaging script where tension and momentum builds throughout in a way most low budget film makers would be unable to achieve without throwing in cheap scare tactics to hold the viewers attention. The film is quite David Lynch like in it's approach with also hints of House of the Devil and Honeymoon especially in the film's structure.

The whole thing is superbly held together by a performance from newcomer Alex Essoe as Sarah that may just see her achieve her dreams of Hollywood fame, particularly in her read through that had me glued to the screen.

The film isn't awash with the red stuff but when it does come it's brutal and visceral. It's not about the gore though, Starry Eyes is all about the atmosphere, the mood and the psychological aspect taking us into the unexplored and the unexplained. The film's edginess builds throughout until we get to a startling yet very ambiguous finale and as with the aforementioned Honeymoon it's this ambiguity that really gives you a 'What have i just watched?' feeling as the credits roll.

Excellent.

I thought Starry Eyes was outstanding, I saw it almost a week ago and haven't stopped thinking about it.

It cost a touch over $50k to make and was shot in 18 days, it's difficult to get your head around that.

Brilliant film.

Glad it's not just me that really liked it then.

THE SENTINEL. Achingly 70s nouveau riche, supernatural yarn that riffs off Rosemary's Baby and El Topo, sort of. This is viagra cinema for me: gore, ugly sex, the occult, wicker chairs, peacocks and Afghan hounds. And that's just in the first ten minutes. By the time all the people with weird skin conditions and facial tumours tipped up straight from Hell, I was spent in the glory of it all.

I recently watched Fast And Furious 7

It was a rather good film even though the action scenes were outlandish and it made Schwarzenegger action scenes look straight to DVD action.

Jason Statham was a good bad guy with a love for blowing things up and he did look rather dangerous, yet Kurt Russell looked out of place. The ending was a nice ending and it should end there. The Rock is hardly in it and the fight he does with Statham looks painful as in how the hell could he get up from that bone crushing Rock Bottom.

In the cinema I had 2 German people talking all the way through it sat literally next to me. I wanted to turn and say to her "excuse me, but shut the fuk up".

I will buy it on Blu as I have the rest on Blu.

The strange Beverly D'Angelo masturbation scene, complete with red spandex, is one of my favourite childhood memories. Mmmm spandex.

It is such a great scene, ugly, weird yet sexy in a way that makes you question yourself.
