Wake Up and Kill is certainly a curious one as it is Euro-crime by the way of a biopic on a famous Italian armed robber and petty thief Luciano Lutring. It's a little overlong but is also pretty well-made with great performances all around. As well as overstaying its welcome a little, the biographical element also means that there is a lot of dialogue-heavy scenes (as well as a lot of secondary characters), so not your traditional euro-crime fest and one which incorporates zero sleaze, but there is lots of detail and realism to the performances and the plot is involving with lots going on. I'd certainly say that it was worth checking out.

No words or a score any more. It won't be long before you leave the posts blank and we have to guess what you've seen.

I stopped scoring as I was conscious that I generally score what others my deem 'low' and wouldn't want to put people off from watching a film based on a perceived 'low' score from me.

Plus, it's better than nothing! I'm just letting folks know what I've been watching, and they are free to ask me any follow-up questions (or not). If I feel inclined, I may post the odd review here and there or may start up a project month again with a few reviews in the new year, but at the moment I'm just running down to Xmas, getting over my illness slowly but surely and working my way through my 'to watch' pile and enjoying what I have been watching so far.

Elf – When I saw this the previous, and hitherto only, time, when I don't think I made it to the end credits, wasn't a fluke. It was just as annoying as I remembered, with Will Ferrell being especially grating, and Zooey Deschanel woefully underused.

Grimsby – a gross out action-comedy, which is largely gross for being the sake of it, and with 'social commentary' which comes across as a privileged writer-actor poking fun and reinforcing stereotypes of the white, Northern, working-class, who feel disenfranchised and are the English counterparts of the Americans who voted for Donald Trump, another of the film's targets. I laughed twice, once when Nobby, the 'hero' responded to the revelation from a football game when the news of a child's health condition was being publicly announced, and the line about a large faecal deposit being cut up her coathanger. The rest of it was entirely forgettable, too disgusting or overlong (the elephant bukkake scene, for example) so was not as funny as it could or should have been.

I never made it through this one either. Ferrell is just the epitome of annoying.

I'm fancying picking The Offence up myself when I can afford it. Always room for more Connery.

It was recently only £7.99 on Eureka's webstore as part of their Black Friday event (the cheapest I've see it since it was released). Hopefully it should drop again around Christmas or in the January sales.

It's a really good film with a stand out performance from Connery - one of his best performances that I've seen in fact.

Have you got Ransom, Ian?

You should be able to pick it up cheaply whenever Network next have a sale.
