Ricks artwork for The Deadly Spawn is a great improvement on the front cover design which is just a jumbled mess. (technical term)

I'm STILL confused. Is Rick's art being used on the front or not?

Cheers. Just confusing that the artwork has been shown for a few months and now we're shown artwork by Rick. But yes, I do prefer Rick's art to the cover I posted.

not paticularly a fan of either cover if i am honest, just not schlocky enough, would have been nice too see the dude designs take a crack at a monster cover for once. Strongly disagree with Rick little shop of horrors is a great film.

A little on the second draft...

"Hi again, chums! I’ve started painting in the girl. I’m doing her first because if I’ve mucked up anywhere on my initial sketch it’ll be here and any errors will quickly show once the colour goes in. I then might try and fix her or scrub the whole thing. On Inferno I rearranged and repainted the woman so many times she looked like a cartoon in the end. A cartoon with an enormous arse!

At this point I stand back and try to visualize my Deadly Spawn cover sitting alongside
everyone else’s on Amazon. Even though the Arrow extras are amongst the best the artwork is equally important although not everyone today realizes it. If you don’t believe me take a look at Tom Hodges Savage Streets lined up against all the other distributors offerings. Like I said in Rue Morgue recently, Tom can make a turd in a shoe box look like the Second Coming! Stuff him though; I still think my Vamp was better!

Anyway, I’m happy that my design is sufficiently different to the other artists’ offerings to stand out although technically it won’t be as well rendered. But then it never is!

Tune in again tomorrow, same trash time, same trash channel!"

I've just been informed by Arrow that Rick's artwork will indeed be the artwork used for the Deadly Spawn front panel.

And now some info on the 3rd draft - it's really looking rather impressive now!

"Today I’m feeling stressed! Of course in my blissfully privileged geriatric world having to suffer The Jeremy Kyle Show is the limit of my stress. Today though I’ve got t-shirtsa nd mugs to knock out. As a business Stunningly Savage T-Shirts sucks! The worst thing about it is I do just enough to take up big chunks of my time but not enough to make any money. Then it’s off to the post office to stand in a long line with folks who have nothing better to do all the live long day than discuss their uncle’s runny eye.

But enough of this whingeing. I’m back and ready to rock so let’s slap some more colour in and decide how much damage to inflict on the girl. This is a Rick Melton cover so it’s going to be sexier than it is brutal. If I try it the other way around then I’ll come of second best to Jeff Zornow so I work to my strengths. Unfortunately my strengths are rendering huge quivering breasts which leads to me being labeled an enormous pervert (and of course, I am!) but then we all have our crosses to bear!

I only got a couple of hours in today but hopefully it’s still worth a look and a comment!"

- Rick Melton

What do you make of it? Personally I love it! The colours definetly help give it some life.
