Default Rick's Deadly Spawn Artwork

Welcome to the Wonderful World Of Rick Melton! The place where we can celebrate the incredible artwork seen on many Arow Releases.

In this thread, I'll be revealing the artwork for the upcoming release of Deadly Spawn done by the Melton himself. What's more is that over the next few days I'll be revealing the many different stages of this artwork along with a brief intro from the man himself.

Be sure to share your thoughts and opinions here

Enjoy!

Default Deadly Blessing Draft #1

Take it away Rick...

"OK, here we go! Time is very limited on this one so I quickly run through the film then check out old TDS posters to make sure I don’t repeat anybody else’s ideas. This film already has tons of great art but most of it conjures up visions of Little Shop of Horrors, one of the suckiest films of all time. This is partly down to the eyeless critter who when viewed face on resembles carnivorous plant Audrey Junior although ‘Spawny’ is vastly superior. The two little attached Spawnsters also look too jolly so it’s off with their heads and I decide to paint my creature from the side.

Poxy Blu Ray packaging means I have to squash my design much more than I like. I know this isn’t a Blu but it might be one day so I can’t have the beast wide mouthed and slavering without the top of his head or the girl being cut off. This isn’t going to be a sexy picture but it’s become a bit more sensuous because of the girl’s passive expression. I had to do it this way because with her screaming the design resembled Gary Pullin’s excellent Deadly Blessing cover too much. It looks a little incongruous but if Arrow thinks it’s too suggestive I can easily change it back."

Is it just me Kyle, or does it not look a bit like he/it is humping her (for lack of a better term!)? maybe I'm too warped for my own good.

I'm confused. I thought this was the Deadly Spawn cover?

Frikken 'ell, you're not wrong! Believe me I bent over backwards (!) to keep any sex out of this one especially as I was told to keep it nice and clean. No wonder I didn't land that job animating Peppa Pig! Hopefully when the blood goes in tomorrow it won't look quite so perverse. Having said that, even Spawn Beasts need a little love sometimes!
