Interesting, Phil. Wouldn't mind seeing the UK DVD if it is available.

Seed was ok because none of the scenes were shot for the film.

Animal cruelty is animal cruelty I don't understand their mentality at times.

Address Unknown got through uncut too I believe, that has some very real looking abuse against dogs.

There's also a scene in Stanley where two mice are eaten by the snakes in a lingering scene that is pretty nasty.

They are just classifying in accordance with the rules of the law, Phil, when cutting or when not cutting, and they are not required to cut unless the animals were mistreated during the making of the film.

Stanley does sound like a puzzling one though.

I have seen cruelty in films ie several martial arts films that have been passed but at closer scrutiny they usually appear to be fake.

More recently they passed The Antichrist uncut complete with the scene showing a toad being pulled apart. I've emailed them about this, I can only imagine the scene did not in fact involve a real toad and that they cleverly replaced the real one with a fake one. It will be interesting to see what they say.

Going back to Old Boy - Alright perhaps their answer wasn't brilliant but I don't think they have ever cut a scene showing somebody eating an animal.

Maybe watching UK version of The Isle will be worthwhile. There is a scene where a fisherman catches a fish, cuts off a piece, eats it and then releases the fish; alive.

Must have been a tricky one for them!

Cuts to The Isle were inevitable. Even before it was submited to the BBFC the RSPCA were threatening legal action against a cinema who had it on their schedule.

Can't see why The Isle caused so much furore - it's a masterpiece of world cinema. One of this decade's most interesting films and it didn't deserve to be protested against.

I feel sorry for the fish that lost their life, but c'mon... they're fish!!

Yes I watched this uncut on the Performance Channel when it was going. Some really rough snake treatment some of it prolonged IMHO, plus the poor mice on the dinner table, though snakes have to eat too. They at least don't kill mice for fun unlike my cat !.
