I think a film needs to have power rather than gore. A powerful film can stay with you far longer than gory scenes of rubber heads getting chopped off. Anyone can make a film with lot's of gore and zero storyline. Take Texas Chainsaw Masscare. Hardly any gore but it lingers with you after you view the film. It's like a garage death metal band....yeah your angry and I can't hear a word your saying, yes your brutal because you don't have any melody but your not anywhere near as powerful and dark as Alice in Chains singing We Die young. |

I had far more trouble with the treatment of cats in MBTS etc, i've seen plenty of documentaries (Titticut Follies, The Animals Film etc) and don't really see them as "entertainment".....educational, maybe. Yet again, most people wouldn't watch L&DOAPG for fun, but i DO recommend it as i always said and will keep saying that it was a different thing to Srpski. End of line......

I have managed to watch the rest of the Guinea Pig series and i must say i expected more from them. Not as shocking or sick as i have heard. FOFAB stands way above the rest for me. Im a little let down if im honest.

Many are tedious rubbish, but there's a fair few I consider classics (Aftermath, Emmanuelle in America, Cannibal Holocaust, Ilsa She Wolf of the SS (which is tame anyway), A Serbian Film, In a Glass Cage, Nekromantik 1 & 2 and Salo). All terrific films. |

A random list featuring varying degrees of sickness: ALL NIGHT LONG 1-3 GUTS OF A VIRGIN / ENTRAILS OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN etc. FORCED ENTRY FEMMES DE SADE FETUS HOUSE OF FLESH MANNEQUINS BEAUTIFUL GIRL HUNTER KILLER SNAKES MERMAID IN A MANHOLE REGORE-GITATED SACRIFICE There are many way, way 'sicker' movies out there ie all the Daisuke Yamanouchi numbers listed above. Probably the harshest of the Ero Guros take first prize. Strange when something like 'Cannibal Holocaust' can come to seem quaint... somehow, that shouldn't happen. The most searingly bleak films, however, don't rely on in yer face depravity. 'Salo', 'In a Glass Cage', even something like 'Threads' base their soul shuddering impact on deeply sad psychological truths. |
