It's already been mentioned, but I think I only need to say three words: 'Boat', 'head' '"Jaws"'

I would also include the sequence in Hammers 'Curse of Frankenstein' when Christopher Lee first removes the bandages from his head, revealling Peter Cushings needlework and giving the viewer their first clear look at the creatures face

When I first saw this, I couldn't get out of bed to turn the television off quickly enough!

Not sure anything in a film scared apart from say eg a film where you not expeccting it and a cat jumps out ....
But a particular scene not sure realy nowt comes to mind..
I tend to jump more at people who jump when watching a film because they give me a shock when they do it

I thought that scene with sharon stone and her vagina in basic instinct was pretty scary. Those meatflaps were like 5 cm long. Only a real bakra G blakaman like Paul Verhoeven can think of shit like this!

A scene that scared me was the end of Sleepaway Camp the reveal it really creeped me out.

The 'ghost' creeping around at the bottom of the bed then suddenly lurching up in A Tale of Two Sisters I found unspeakably creepy. I don't think anything has disturbed me as much as Bob's appearences in Fire Walk With Me, though the face morphing scene in Inland Empire comes close . . .

Not so much scary to me but definitely disturbing. It's the relevant character's pose and facial expression that i find unsettling.

The only moment in the film that truly came close to creeping me out tbh.

There's also a scene in Squirm where 'ol wormface Roger pops out of an attic hatch that works reasonably well too if i recall rightly.

I post before I read the other piosts, seems more original to me...

There were many scary scenes I am sure and I think that was what caught me in the genre web, somehow the scares have weakened with each added to the list, what a pity...

But anyway, the obne scene with the longest after effect was the ending of de Palma's Carrie - I remember sitting on a tube station half an hour later, waiting for the next tube, still shaking all over. I analyzed this scene many times, once I had it on DVD and it is just well-made and being in a forreign room (movie theatre) and the better noise made it as tough to take as it is - well done Brian! And maybe that is why I dread the remake so much...
