I disagree with your review. It's certainly not a top tier Franco but I thought there were plenty of interesting artistic choices and themes. For instance, the trapped birds pretty much parallel the main character's predicament. Before she met Cynthia, she was trapped in a boring nightclub. After meeting her, she is then trapped in an abusive relationship where even fantasy doesn't provide comfort, and when she confides in the doctor, it's revealed at the end that she is yet again trapped. This gives the story a very miserable and desperate tone which is further enhanced by the claustrophobic compositions and the erratic sound design.

The English dub is absolutely atrocious and I can't believe someone actually commissioned it. The original French dub gives Diana Lorys a less irritating voice and that car scene where she tells the doctor about her nightmares is more sympathetic. Lorys doesn't look "uninterested" in the material at all, I thought she was pretty invested in it.

So yeah, Nightmares is by no means amazing and it does drag but I personally feel there's a more flair to it than you give it credit for.

The last email i received was two or three weeks ago. There's no actual release date mentioned by Amazon anymore.

I've had a couple of notifications since I pre-ordered the book in January from them. I wondered whether or not someone had heard something else from another source?

TBH, i'd be delighted if it came out in time for Christmas. It would be a rather cool gift if someone asks me if there's anything i want.

Patience is a virtue and all that! I'm really looking forward to this one and I hope that the second volume isn't years away.

Stephen Thrower has published pics of his advance copies on Facebook, and said that the release date is now set to late June, let's see...
I also hope the second volume doesn't take ages to be published, at least a re-press of his Fulci book is also planned.
