Brutal Planet and Dragontown are the period of Alice History which never really struck a chord with me, it's not what I was looking for in an Alice Cooper record and other bands who broke the ground with these new musicals styles did it better, however with The Eyes of and Dirty Diamonds he got his hard rock swagger back and I enjoyed contemporary Alice once more.

He's devoting a lot of time to it, and why not? On paper it's a great superstar project as i guess it is live experience. I for one would love to see them. The 7th song on the album, 'Pessi-Mystic' has lyrics that are very dark, depressing and nihilistic. Musically, it's quieter than what has gone before, but much more atmospheric By now, you should have realised that the entire 'Brutal Planet' album is not a feel good thing! What makes it even more disturbing is the fact that the themes covered on the record are just as relevant today (if not more so) then they were when the album was released One of the co-writers of the song is Brian Nelson, who is better known to Alice fans as 'Renfield'. He was a superfan, who ended us as Alice's personal assistant, and much of the memorabilia that is available is from his personal collection. Moving away from the realities of the true life horrors that has filled the album up to this point, this song is about a Faustian pact with the Devil. I wonder if it was originally meant for 'The Last Temptation' album, because it would have fitted in perfectly with the story told there - Alice as The Showman/Satan After the previous 'wrist-slashing' songs on the album, it's good to have a return to the lighter, 'fun' side of Alice Cooper 08/11 - Gimme (Cooper, Marlette) "I know all your desires Your heart is so full of pain Is there something I can provide When you feel like life's passed you by I'm on your side Gimme this gimme that Gimme this gimme that Gimme this gimme that Gimme this gimme that Gimme this gimme that Gimme this gimme that Gimme this gimme that Gimme this gimme that Please don't ask me my name Does it matter? The next song,'It's The Little Things', is another fun one. It's more heavy metal than industrial rock, faster and crunchier. The final song on the standard release of the album is 'Cold Machines', which has a futurist feel to it - especially during the intro. It's back to the industrial sound that has been the backbone of the album, with the drums in particular kicking up a storm. The tour was splint into two legs, with the first part, which opened in Europe, running between June 10th - November 11th 2000. UK dates were between July 11th - July 20th, and took in Newport, Sheffield, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Portsmouth, London (Hammersmith) and Nottingham. Support came from Lukin. After these dates, the tour moved to the US The touring band consisted of: Alice Cooper - Vocals Ryan Roxie - Guitar Pete Friesen - Guitar Greg Smith - Bass Eric Singer - Drums Teddy `Zigzag` Andreadis - Keyboards This was the first tour to feature Calico as one of the dancers, and she appeared as the whipgirl and nurse. During the band introductions, Alice called her 'My own little nightmare' Between Nov 15th - 30th, Alice performs as part of the 'British Rock Symphony' in South America The second leg of the 'Brutally Live' tour started in Australia on April 13th, 2001. On April 26th, the show returned to Europe for some more dates, including the UK between May 15th - May 21st. Where the first part had been a theatre tour, this was an arena tour, and dates were at Bournmouth, Manchester, Wembley, Cardiff, Birmingham and Edinburgh. There was a DVD released of the tour, entitled 'Brutally Live', and recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo show on July 19th, 2000. It is a good theatrical one, and highly recommended After the first European leg of the tour, a special 'Tour Edition' of 'Brutal Planet' was released in Europe, which contained a second CD featuring some live cuts taken from the DVD. A bit of good news. Joe Perry will be returning to the stage for tonight's Hollywood Vampires show in California. He has been out of action for the last 11 days! During this time, the band have had Joe's amp and hat on stage and shown photos on the video screen He needs to take things easy tho - they have got four shows in four days, with the tour ending on Monday Alice then returns to the solo tour on August 6th Demdike@Cult Labs likes this.
