I know what you mean, Nordi. I think the proper term is 'whipping a bin lid with a wet towel'. There's nothing worse than a bad drum sound.

St Anger has some great riffs etc, but that snare sound is horrendous, and all because the dumbass forget to turn the snare on when they started rehearsing!

Today, he's simply "too old for this shit", so to speak. As for the drum sound on St.Anger - I don't think it's too bad. I'm a sucker for nasty snare drum sounds. As a matter of fact, I used to use a 14" x 3,5" aluminium snare drum back in the day - very high-pitched, almost no snare wire. Kick-ass sound, and louder than every guitar out there. His best work is on Justice IMO, just a shame the production is shite on that album as it's been my favourite Metallica album for 20 odd years

Death Magnetic removes most of the sour taste St Anger left in the mouth!

Agreed. Unfortunately its an album that lacks any killer tracks a la Fight Fire with Fire, Battery et' al.

I have not even listened to one track from Death Magnetic. I just find it hard to motivate myself enough to listen to Metallica after Justice.

True. I can't think of any which will be remembered fondly and covered by new, aspiring and established musicians in 20 years time. Even Load and Reload had memorable songs – Fuel being one of them.
