Course not, just trying to get a bite

Tbh though, I've only ever watched it once when I was a kid, I remember enjoying it back then

Demdike@Cult Labs 23rd December 2014 05:45 PM

I've never seen it.

Is it a good action film that still stands up today like Commando, Blood Sport etc or a nostalgia piece?

Then I took the bait! Well done sir, well done

American Ninja 2 is a better movie imo, but the first movie is still first class Cannon entertainment.

Stephen@Cult Labs 23rd December 2014 07:25 PM

Calum has posted about getting the American Ninja films, on Facebook. A quick peruse of the Hollywood Classics site reveals that they handle home entertainment distribution of American Ninja 1-4. American Ninja 5 (and terrible btw), is still controlled by Warners.

I have only seen number 4, and it was bonkers in a very good way.

You have to see number 2. It has the greatest wtf moment ever committed to film. They used a stand-in for Dudikoff in one scene where he walks out of an office, and the guy walks past camera and stares right into it. It's just crazy!

I remember the first time i saw the turn around stunt man i kept rewinding it to see were my eyes playing tricks on me. In all fairness he turned around pretty fast so a trained professional was needed to prevent injury or even worse.

I am so chuffed about this!
I'm guessing there will be an interview with Sam Firstenberg since he appeared in High Rising's action film doc.

That doesn't equate to an interview from Firstenberg. Even though they've released some High Rising stuff, Calum's role there is acquiring titles. Don't think High Rising have done dedicated extras for 88 (commentaries don't count there, btw).

J Harker 23rd December 2014 11:12 PM

Maybe the start of an 'Action Collection'?

Stephen@Cult Labs 24th December 2014 06:10 PM

How's this for a slice of cheese? Brilliant!

If the American Ninja movies do well (which I hope the do), who knows. I'd like to think we might get more Cannon movies.

I'm kinda basing it on that High Rising have often spread interviews over different releases and even different companies, just think we haven't seen the last of Firstenberg on High Rising productions.

I agree that American Ninja 2 is better than the first, but I think that's because Steve James gets to do more in that one.
I do like Dudikoff but I always felt Steve James should have been the star of these movies. Heck according to Sheldon Lettich, Golan was more interested in turning Dudikoff into an action star than Van Damme! Would explain the 4 year gap between his appearance in Breakin and the release of Bloodsport.

Anyone read the 88 Films blog from 31st December? Theres some titbits of info in there about their plans for 2015. I am most intrigued by the 'romp' from one of Tarentinos favourite directors. Now what could that be?

One thing I would like from 88Films is a basic schedule for all the titles they've announced so far, even just a Night Trains is due Autumn 2015. With what they've announced so far they'll be getting a good bit of money off me in 2015.

fuzzymctiger 7th January 2015 09:29 PM

I just made this then using their blog and Amazon. Sorry it's in reverse.

2015:
American Ninja
Spasmo
Night Train Murders
Bloodstained Shadow
3 more slasher classics – "including a seasonal slasher that has never even had a DVD bow and a couple of rental emporium favourites that any self-respecting slice and dice buff will be thrilled to have back on UK shelves"
Another Italian film - "it’s a Tarantino favourite and comes from a filmmaker whose work has been a little too under-represented on the HD format."

April 20:
Tromeo and Juliet
Burial Ground
Slaughterhouse
Scalps
Lord of Tears (DVD. Avoid this film)
The Dead Next Door

April 6:
Mothers Day

23 March:
Splatter University
Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers
Don't Go In The Woods Alone

16 March:
Zombi Holocaust

26 January:
Citizen Toxie
Toxic Avenger 3
Eskimo Nell

That is a pretty full roster of releases already! I wonder what the festive slasher is, Silent Night is already out along with Christmas Evil and Black Christmas is unavailable. So many questions!

Don't Open Till Christmas perhaps?

Possibly the ultimate Christmas slasher with a kill every five minutes or so.

They are quoted as saying "Back on UK shelves".

It's only speculation. We'll find out in due course.

Christmas Evil is a possibility, Arrow most likely have DVD only rights.

Night Train Murders was released by Shameless on DVD and is getting a blu ray from 88, so it's possible with the overlap of VinSyn and them.
