I've just got my copy out. Very striking cover art of the maid dressed in red walking down a dark corridor.

What surprises me is it's only a 12 cert and only runs 73 mins. One to revisit next week definitely.

Cheers for mentioning and bringing it back into my head.

Event Horizon (1997)

The Event Horizon, an experimental space ship created by scientist Sam Neil, missing for seven years, has just been located so a salvage ship crewed by Laurence Fishburne, Joely Richardson, Kathleen Quinlan and more, take Neil along in an attempt to retrieve it. However it soon becomes apparent that dark forces are at work aboard the Event Horizon.

A fine science fiction horror film from the usually maligned Paul W.S. Anderson. It's a classy cast who make this so much more than a typical sci-fi B-movie, as do the magnificently designed sets. Whilst some gruesome visions of hellish horror ensure the film both remains in the memory and has proven itself a cult classic in the near thirty years since it first scarred cinema audiences.

The now deleted special edition UK Blu-ray looks and sounds awesome.

Earth Vs The Flying Saucers. 1956.

Another great example of 1950s sci-fi films with Ray Harryhausen doing the special effects for this little decent film. It has all the elements to make it a sold movie; a good variety of characters, an interesting plot, and a solid script.Hugh Marlowe and Joan Taylor are scientists working on a project that sends satellites into space. Something or someone is shooting them down. A flying saucer lands and that's when the havoc starts.

There may be some plot holes and questions why the big flying saucers don't appear on radar, and some acting that may be a bit wooden, but this is certainly a decent alien invasion movie along with War Of The Worlds as a double feature.

Dollman. 1991.

Tim Thomerson plays the intergalactic policeman Brick Bardo, who is tough as nails and arrives on Earth to find a criminal and is only 12 inches tall. Director Albert Pyun goes with what he can do with this daft Sci-Fi movie from Charles Band's Full Moon studio so you know we can a expect a low grade B movie that is certainly entertaining. Jackie Earle Haley plays the antagonist Braxton Red and does a decent job as the adversary for the hero in this. The effects are pretty much low budget and daft at times but still can be a decent little flick with some laughs and some good action sequences.

Trancers. 1984.

A bounty hunter from the future travels back 1980s Los Angeles chasing a criminal who can turn people into zombie like killers.

Second Tim Thomerson viewing and first time seeing this in ages and forgot how good it was. While the special effects afforded by the modest budget could best be described as quaint, the action sequences are decent enough. It is only 1 hour 16 minutes it does move at a decent pace that never slides off the track and adds in one or two laughs and few cheesy 80s commenrs towards Helen Hunt and Tim starting a small fight in a disco. I forgot that this is another christmas movie.

Flash Gordon. 1980.

Ok the plot is daft, the dialogue is very cheesy and some of the visual effects are laughable but what would you expect from a Italian/American/British film....but this is still a lot of fun to watch. Sam J. Jones was on a dating show and was seen then got the job as the hero....if it was that easy im sure we would be on shows to get attention loud mouth Brian Blessed is the wing man Vultan who manages not swear. Timothy Dalton as the 70s porn star moustache wearing Prince who loves the princess Ornella Muti....who wouldn't. Topol plays the crazy scientist Zarkov who thinks the end of the world would happen and belives it is now and takes the hero and heroine Melody Anderson to planet Mongo. Max Von Sydow does steal the show as the Emporer Ming and seems to have fun with the character. Aside from the cheesy stuff, you gotta admit the soundtrack by Queen is the best part of the film.

What d'ya mean "aside from the cheesy stuff", the cheesy stuff is exactly what makes Flash Gordon amazing.

Some people look at the cheesy stuff as memorable or Freddy Mercury singing the song as memorable
