Eccleston is still the best of the NuHu Doctors, and it's not him that sounds bitter here.

The thing is when doctor who returned it got good reviews, so you think that would be enough for him to do a second series.

Love this artwork, any idea where it came from?

I agree. It's a very striking picture

All I really know about it, is that it comes from a German edition of the book. The cover art was done by David Hardy, the artist who illustrated (and authored) such books as 'Challenge of the Stars'

It seems that the Doctor Who cover was a special commission for the book, and it also got a large printing in either Starburst or TV Zone magazine, as part of a feature about SF art

It's a very odd cover, the wrong Doctor and Daleks that look like Krotons!

If I close one eye, squint with the other and turn my head to this angle, I think I can guess the Doctor is supposed to be William Hartnell!!

And as for the Dalek, with the single police car light on the top of it's dome...

Mind you, playing Devil's Advocate, it's possible that the artist had never seen the show, and was just going by the descriptions given in the book itself...possibly

Yet it's eerily similar to this one. http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/...20070924082436

Maybe they just gave a chimp some coloured pencils and said copy this, Inspector.

TARGET Books from around the world, part 7: France

These books were published in France in 1987 to coincide with the series being shown for the first time in that country. A batch of early Tom Baker stories were shown as part of a SF magazine show called 'Temps X', hosted by Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff, who are pictured on the covers of these books...

1: An Unearthly Child
2: The Dalek Invasion Of Earth
3: Meglos
4: The Abominable Snowmen
5: The Brain Of Morbius
6: The Crusaders - The facepalm from the Doctor is a nice touch, but probably out of character!
7: The Daleks
8: The Masque Of Mandragora

Demdike@Cult Labs 14th September 2016 11:57 AM

Those French covers are brilliant. I always knew Hartnell wore the long scarf...and Troughton!

Love The Crusades art.

That Three Doctors one is a bit bizarre with the smiling doctors, looks like Omega is an evil teacher, telling off Troughton, meanwhile Hartnel and Pertwee are laughing their tits off. ;)

All three are official Target novel reprint covers from 1991. Albeit slightly differing. As you can see from this graphic.

This was the original UK cover, published in 1975. It's the one I have got. Cost me 35p!

Yes that's the best one. The first reprint which i've also got was a bit bland in my opinion.

I used to gaze at that cover and fear for the Doctors as Omega sent energy waves out of his hands and into their heads.

Damn you Target Books, despite being a cracking story that never happened.

I think I have that cover too.

All of my Who books are in the attic sadly as I just don't have the space to display them.

I think I'm missing about 5... can't remember which ones though. I used to have a spreadsheet on the go of all the ones I had and which ones I still needed to pick up but I lost it with the death of one of my old PCs well over a decade ago now.

I keep mine listed in a notebook, which I keep in my handbag at all time, just in case I ever come across a shelf of 'Doctor Who' books!

So, you used a computer and I use a book and a pencil. I wonder what the Doctor would have to say about that - modern technology vs. old fashioned methods!

I'm not sure if Doktor Kim is a literal translation of Doctor Who, of whether the character is given the name Kim!

1: The Abominable Snowmen
2: The Auton Invasion/Spearhead From Space
3: The Cybermen/The Moonbase
4: The Daleks
5: Day Of The Daleks
6: The Doomsday Weapon/Colony In Space

And that's the end of this trip around the world for the time being.

11 parts, eh? Almost as long as 'The Daleks' Master Plan'!!

Some of the covers featured have been incredible; some have been abysmal; some have been straight copies of the UK covers and some have been so left of centre you would never have been able to guess what they were!

But all of them have been interesting

If you read the story- "Matt Gatiss recently said that he thinks the Christmas special is “one of Steve’s best ever scripts, absolutely beautiful,” and added that it made him cry."

The reality is that who fans will probably be crying for other reasons.;)

I actually quite like a lot of new who, it's a different animal from classic Who.
But usually the Christmas episodes suck ass big time.

I think there have been some really good Christmas episodes. My faves being -

The Next Doctor (sorry i love Cybermen tramping through graveyards)
A Christmas Carol
The Time of the Doctor

The Doctor the Widow and the Wardrobe was awful though. The last two were merely okay.

nosferatu42 22nd September 2016 11:17 PM

The only ones i really liked were the Christmas invasion and the Cyberman one, stories where Christmas is a sideline, i'd rather have a proper Who story than a Christmas advert.
**** xmas, i didn't vote for that shit.;)
