I’ve recently watched The Talons Of Weng Chiang on the new season 14 Blu-ray boxset. It’s always been a favourite, but watching it again, it really makes you appreciate what a fantastic story this is.
Everyone is on top of their game here. Tom Baker and Louise Jameson are fantastic, Jago and Lightfoot are a joy, Mr Sin is as terrifying as ever, the sets and costumes are gorgeous and the outside filming is wonderfully atmospheric.
The only blip was the rat costume and this has been rectified by the new optional CGI effects, which don’t jar at all and actually add the final missing piece of this fantastic story.
You don’t even need to watch the absolute garbage that pretends to be Doctor Who these days to realise this is an absolute classic.
