Coming soon...

Doctor Who: Hornets’ Nest – 10LP coloured vinyl box set . Pre-order available from Amazon UK - £159.99

"In 2009, actor Tom Baker reprised the role of the Doctor in Doctor Who for a BBC radio drama called Hornets’ Nest. It was the first time Baker had returned (properly) to the role since the end of his original TV series, in the early 1980s.

The story sees retired Captain Mike Yates (played by Richard Franklin) respond to an advert in the newspaper which leads him to be reunited with his old friend, the Doctor. The entire story runs over five episodes as the Captain finds him besieged by a powerful race of insects intent on global domination. As the Time Lord recounts his recent adventures across the centuries, it becomes clear that the fate of mankind is in the hands of the Doctor, Mike and the peculiar Mrs Wibbsey…

Now Demon Music have created a collectors’ vinyl box set of this whole drama, with ten 140g coloured vinyl LPs pressed on alternating yellow and black records.

Each box comes with a very cool portrait of the Fourth Doctor which have been individually signed by Tom Baker himself – this is a rare opportunity for Doctor Who fans.

As well as the print and the coloured vinyl in the illustrated outer sleeves, the Hornets’ Nest comes with a large 16-page full colour booklet detailing the Time Lord’s notes and illustrations from his battles against the hornets.

This “full-cast audio adventure” by Paul Magrs stars Tom Baker as the Doctor, with Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey. The supporting cast includes Daniel Hill, Christian Rodska, Michael Maloney, Stephen Thorne and Rula Lenska, and sound design is by Simon Power, alongside the familiar Doctor Who theme from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

Hornets’ Nest is released on 6 May 2022. This is a limited edition of 1200 units worldwide. All boxes have the signed print."

LPs 1 & 2 - The Stuff of Nightmares
LPs 3 & 4 - The Dead Shoes
LPs 5 & 6 - Circus of Doom
LPs 7 & 8 - A Sting in the Tail
LPs 9 & 10 - Hive of Horror

I’ve been listening to some of the Big Finish third Doctor adventures and I have to say Jon Culshaw as the Brigadier is seriously good. It’s like listening to good old Nic himself at times.
