I think what I truly hate is that they completely took out the alien aspect of the characters. It's like they were ashamed of the characters so they had to completely change them.
The Cybermen always have been humans or humanoids that used implants and mechanical parts to enhance themselves, beginning on the planet Mondas. So the new series never actually added that, its how they become Cybermen.

The human emotion element in Closing Time was rubbish though.

Humanoid yes but human no. I really was bothered by that in the new series. Ive always been a great fan of the original cybermen.

There's much I like about the new series but theres so much I think should change.

I'd love to see Gallifrey back again. I want to see the Doctor more mysterious than he now is. I'd even ground the Doctor long enough to re-establish U.N.I.T which. Think has been utterly wasted in the new series so they could shoehorn Torchwood in there.

I want to see the Zygons, the Yeti, and I'd like a whole two year span without one single Dalek story to fall back on.

That's the start of my wish list.

Sorry, i shouldn't have written humanoid. They were humans from Mondas which was the earth's twin planet.

Grounding the series for a while could be interesting. I'd go with Gwen and Jack and Torchwood like you suggest rather than UNIT as they don't really seem as Doctor friendly as they were with the Brigadier leading them.

Honestly I had no idea about the twin planet origin but it makes more sense in the new series now. I guess for me growing up I saw them as these towering silver alien monsters and that's how it stuck with me. Makes more sense now though. I have been checking out some of Hartnells work as you suggested and I'm becoming a fan. I don't have either doctor I do not enjoy.

Really pleased you are warming to William Hartnell.

As the Brigadier said "Wonderful chap, all of them".

Interestingly, in his introduction to the new reprint of Doctor Who And The Ice Warriors, Mark Gatiss closes with the line: " And surely, somewhere out there in the freezing, snowy wastes, the Ice Warriors are still waiting...". A big hint there methinks?

I didn't like the new look Silurians at all, but hope for better things with the Ice Warriors. I always thought their leader ( Slaar? ) in The Seeds Of Death was an excellent character. It would be nice to see an updated version.

Attack has extra points in my book for having the deliciously sinister Lytton from Resurrection of the Daleks in it. The guy was hideously under used.

Someone sent me this earlier

I think it captures the personalities of the female companions perfectly

Loved the U.N.I.T era of Doctor Who. Hope they don't botch it. With them, the ice warriors, rumors of the Yeti and the Zygons it could be a banner year for fans.
