THE ORIGINAL AND, FRANKLY, FUNNIER AUSTRALIAN SERIES THAT INSPIRED A US REMAKE AND NOW THE LATEST COMEDY SENSATION ON BBC3.

All dogs have needs that need to be fulfilled. Shelter, food, exercise, psychotropic drugs… Scratch the last one for most of our four-legged friends, unless they happen to be like Wilfred, the kind of pet that can manipulate even a TV dog trainer into doing it’s bidding (as seen a brilliant early episode from series one).

Wilfred needs pizza, beer, sex and the emotional pain of those around him. Is he a sociopath? Very likely. In this week’s compilation clip, we look at his attitude to the opposite sex and again, the show nails it in terms of bringing the instincts and behaviours of a dog to the TV screen in human form. OK, so we can’t ever know what a dog is really thinking, but if a big, smelly, untrained mutt had a voice we could understand then I think the creators of Wilfred have given it expression.
