This Week @ Cult Labs: 3 December 2010

Oh my, I can’t believe it’s December. The first window of my advent calendar is opened, Christmas shopping has started, and end-of-term stuff is going on at uni. Not too sure where this year has gone… Think it must have passed by in a blaze of cool film releases! But the great releases of 2010 aren’t quite over with yet…

In fact there’s a whole month of them to go! Coming up as soon as 13 December is Arrow Video’s special limited edition release of Battle Royale on DVD and Blu-ray! All the release info can be found on the dedicated product page while we can now announce news and images of the new and exclusive comic book, Battle Royale: Parent’s Day. For more info on this amazing 32 page book, check out the official blog! And if you fancy sharing you excitement for this sensational release, head on over to the official mini-forum!

MORE SERBIAN CONTROVERSY

More time passes and yet A Serbian Film remains as controversial as ever. Sam’s most recent blog offers a wonderfully balanced perspective on things and is well worth a read. Also joining the debate is Mumsnet, where there are people demanding to “ban this sick filth” mixed in with others who simply take the “if you don’t like it, don’t watch it” approach – much like a lot of the debates seen so far! Meanwhile, Empire Magazine and Brutal as Hell both see it as an important film which needs to be discussed. For an array of views and reviews, you should check out the hubsite which lists all reviews – good and bad. A Serbian Film will be released in cinemas by Revolver Entertainment on 10 December 2010, and on DVD and Blu-ray on 3 January 2011.

VOTE FOR THE FLIPSIDE SLEEVE OF AMER!

Amer is a piece of neo-giallo genius that is to Italian B-movies what Taratino is for grindhouse. Released by Anchor Bay Films early next year, this is the must-see movie for all lovers of scary cinema past. And the best bit? Cult Labs members have the chance to vote for the reverse sleeve artwork! Everyone who votes will be in with a chance of winning a copy of the film so to see your choices and get voting, head on over to the forums or Facebook. Voting ends at 6pm on Monday so make sure you don’t miss your chance!

And, speaking of voting, coming this weekend is another artwork vote for a controversial horror remake so keep your eyes peeled for it… Perhaps using fish hooks…?

KYLE’S COMP CORNER

In a slight change of pace this week, Kyle is giving away an anime so all you anime/Manga fans should enter this comp to win a copy of Eden of the East, directed by Kenji Kamiyama. For the details on how to enter head on over to the Comp Corner now! Good luck…

THEXPERIMENTHQ – NORTH

Shawn continues from the last edition in constant ranting over everything! His most controversial comments to date are present here. These include: Both dissing the entire genre of Martial Arts and one gentleman who goes by the name of Sammo Hung. Poor little Tim is once again chastised by his follow podcasters and is subjected to an array of abuse for amongst other things, owning the limited edition steelbook version of The Human Centipede.

MODS & ROCKERS

Just one little, but important, reminder brought to you by your friendly neighbourhood mods:

  • If you accidentally leave something out of your post, please use the edit feature to put it in again rather than creating an extra post. This just creates unnecessarily long threads that other members have to wade through. For those who don’t already know, the “edit” button is located in the bottom right hand corner of your post, next to the “quote” button (see image).

The forum rules can be found here. If any of the mods (forum, technical, competitions, etc.) want me to include anything in this section next week then just let me know!

WELCOME NEWBIES!

This week I’m saying a big hi there to Yikes! and Jon and… well, um, that’s it! If you’re new to the forum, why not head on over to the new members thread to introduce yourself?

AND FINALLY…

Apologies that the newsletter is a bit shorter than usual this week. A bit of a crisis has come up, causing me to cut it short. But to find out what’s been going on at the Labs, head on over there now!

Before I go, here’s a little reminder that if you haven’t already signed up to receive this newsletter in your inbox each week, you can do so using this link. All this means is that every Thursday you get a little bit of me in your inbox. Not literally though. That’d be a bit gross.

Remember, if you have any comments, feedback or anything you’d like to see featured in the newsletter, PM me at Sarah@Cult Labs or drop me a line on the newsletter threadOr, if you’re reading this as an email, just hit “reply”!

Until next week,

Sarah@Cult Labs.
