THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 1 JULY 2011

WONDERS WILL NEVER CEASE

It’s sunny. And it’s warm. What the hell is going on? Who are you and what have you done with the United Kingdom?!

Being British, I’m fully prepared for this glorious weather to come crashing down around us and so I have a backup plan for my weekend. This plan involves curling up on the sofa and watching New York Ripper (Shameless Screen Entertainment: Blu-ray & DVD) which is out now! Of course, this is such a great release that I may just have to make it my Plan A regardless of the weather. For more info on this brilliant Shameless release, you should check out the blog or join in the debate on the official mini-forum!

ALSO OUT NOW

Also in stores now is Dario Argento’s classic giallo, Tenebrae (Arrow Video: Blu-ray & DVD). This is my joint favourite Argento along with Deep Red If you’ve seen it already then you know what I’m talking about and if you haven’t seen it already you need to. Or I will never speak to you again. So there.

You can find out more about Arrow’s release on the blog or on the official mini-forum.

Also out now:

  • Prisoner Cell Block H: Vol. 8 (Shock Entertainment & FremantleMedia Enterprises: DVD) – join in on the official UK forum or for a chance to win Vols. 1-7 check out the blog!

OUT NEXT WEEK

Out next week is the hilarious Kentucky Fried Movie (Arrow Video: DVD), the Citizen Kane of bad taste, gross out, screwball movies. This is the film that birthed a thousand low rent comedies, a million playground quotes and brought the ancient mysteries of Kung Fu to the West in the awe inspiring mini-movie, A Fistful of Yen.

For more details you can check out the offical mini-forum

COMING SOON FROM CULT LABS

We have a few exciting goodies baking away in the labs that should be ready for you soon. First up for you this week is Almost Human (Shameless Screen Entertainment: DVD, 18 July 2011), a fast-paced Lenzi crime thriller that features music from Ennio Morricone and a level of sleaziness that’s atypical for the genre. If you like your cops badass and your villains badder, this is a high octane, edge-of-the-seat experience you will not want to miss! You can read more on the blog or join in the chatter on the official mini-forum!

Also coming soon, this time to UK cinemas, is the amazing Hobo With a Shotgun (Momentum Pictures: 15 July 2011). Sam has been busy updating the official UK hubsite with brilliant gems for you to fill all your Hobo needs until the release date. I highly recommend checking out the original fake trailer that launched Hobo-mania around the world!

You might also want to take a peek at the Arrow Video Forum where there will be 4 official title announcements waiting for you!

CULT CAREERS

Last week I told you about Brunel’s Cult Careers Scheme as part of their MA in Cult Film & TV. This week I have for you the inside info from Shellie McMurdo – an MA student taking part in the Cult Careers Scheme. Shellie tells us:

I jumped at the chance to be involved in Cine-Excess and in the internship at The Associates. Both of these opportunities have given me experience that I do not believe I would have otherwise been able to obtain.

Read more over at the blog or head on over to the Cult 101 thread to discuss the course and scheme!
