Kingofwitches mentioned his Grandad letting him stay up to watch the horror film. Exactly the same here, but it was my Gran who let me stay up. If I remember rightly, at the time you mention, it was a Friday or Saturday night horror double bill with usually a Universal horror being first up, followed by a Hammer horror. My favourite favourite Universal has got to be 'Son of Frankenstein' - followed closely by 'The Mummy'.
