My thoughts on the Road of the Dead project. Don't think I'll see this one. Sounds too silly and if it's as low-budget as Diary and Survival, it'll probably look very cheap too. Even if Romero was directing it (this time around he's just a co-writer and producer), I think that I would still be avoiding it. However I do dearly love Night (original), Dawn, Day and even Land. Nothing tarnishes those films. btw Romero was famously critical of running zombies but now they race cars. Whilst I still don't like it enough to want to own a copy, Diary of the Dead was a fairly interesting low-budget film with occasional flashes of brilliance (eg, the deaf Amish character and the high-current defibrillator death). But Survival of the Dead was very poor indeed, I found nothing in it to recommend. It has to be said, that it was a really weak film - although I suppose that if a zombie can ride a horse (seriously, wtf!), then it can also race a car? Wouldn't surprise me if this new film struggled to find investors. Apart from the fact that it sounds somewhat ridiculous, Survival of the Dead wasn't exactly a huge success and probably struggled to make back it's 4 million dollar budget. This time around, it's not even going to be directed by Romero - the helmer is somebody with only 2nd unit experience. I'm not sure just how much weight, Romero producing and writing credits will carry. Having said that, if the project is actually greenlit, I would be very interested to see a trailer! Was elsewhere, reading folks reaction to this announced project, and was saddened to read somebody posting that the 77 yr old Romero is apparently in quite a poor state of health nowadays. If that is true, presumably that is why he has passed directing duties over to somebody else. This new project reminds me of the Phantasm Ravager scenario: where a director steps aside but still acts as producer and co-writer, and the film is an official series entry.

Being jaded about Romero these days, this being directed by someone else might make it better than it could have been had he directed, wrote and produced himself. I'm more than happy to go and see it (if it gets a theatrical run) though. From that poster though I am getting Mad Max Vs the Zombies

Still looking to secure financing according to the article. Wouldn't be surprised if it never gets made. I think the poor reception to Survival of the Dead isn't doing this new project any great favours. SOTD probably struggled to make an actual profit which is deterring potential investors.
